Guide rail speed square... dedicated 90 for crosscutting and shelf dadoes.

I'm encouraged to hear that you've made it thicker (.190") and especially that the length of register is 17". I typically use my 18" Woodpecker square to align the rail for perpendicular cuts. As you say, the more length that you can register the better the averaging of the workpiece (register) edge.
How does it "lock" into position once you've initially aligned it on the rail with a square?
Nice product addition Steve!

The rail comes with bolts and bras thumb screws.  They are included in the price.  Under the Rail fence, it slips into the groove to hold it steadily in place.  With Steve's rough initial fabrication, we used a SOB Square to align it, and the thumb screws really do the trick in tightening it down.  The prototype will have an Extreme tolerance on the bottom groove as it will be CNC'd dead flat.

Thanks Ron. I use 1/8 inch thick all the time around the shop at it's pretty strong. I think outside of the shop, the extra strength from 3/16 inch would be needed.  [smile]

There is no need to use a square to initially align the Rail Fence. It has 2 different ways it will align to the rail that are very accurate and require no tools (this is covered in the instructions that come with the fence). It "locks" in position with 2 bolts and thumbscrews.

As far as the thickness I'm not so concerned with the strength or ruggedness so much as having more contact surface to register on the workpiece.  As you mentioned you've provided for attaching a piece of hardwood or even another piece of aluminum (carefully trued to your register edge).  I'm talking myself into one, probably for attachment on one of the short rails that came with my MFT's.
