Guido Henn's Drill/Drill Press Set Up

I've been watching Guido Henn's videos the last few days and wondering if any Foggers could provide some insight with his drill set up. I've included a link below but I have to warn you that you might get sucked into a few hours of watching him....his general workflow and skills are really amazing:

From the videos I can see that he is using a Protool drill (I know Festool acquired these guys), a stationary drill guide and a secondary drill guide that is mobile. Does anyone have any insight about what he is using? Are these available in the US?

As I watched this video I started thinking about "If Festool made one thing, I wish it was..." posts and this is it for me. I'd love to have this set up, get rid of my floor drill press and gain some shop space back.

Hi, It's a Wabeco Drilling/milling stand. I have the same problems as you and would love Festool to come up with some sort of a portable drill press. I haven't bought it yet but might order it at some point this year. There is a problem finding a decent drill though that fits these attachments. I can't advise on whether or not it is available in the US but from having had a google and search on this forums, the Wabeco isn't perfect but then again if you don't have space for a real press you are forced to accept this compromise.

The mobile drill press is a wolfcraft, but if you are looking for such a mobile press I would choose a drill press from WABECO. To use them you will need a drill with a 43 mm Euro-neck (sorry I dont know the right term in english). If you have a router-motor with this 43 mm Euro-neck you can also fix this to the press and you can use it as a small router table with a perfect look on the bit and what you are routing.

I have what I think is an identical drill press but an OEM version sold by Axminster under their name here in the UK and it is only UK Pounds 14.95.

The PDC 18/4 has the 43 mm collar and it fits in perfectly.

The first one he uses I am not sure about, I have seen something like it in person in a race trailer but it looked more homemade and was used mainly for notching tubing.

The second one he uses can be purchased on amazon and is pretty inexpensive. I bought one when I built a sim racing cockpit in my apartment a few years ago and needed a "drill press" but didnt have room for it. I actually just threw the box away and put it in a systainer along with my dowling jig last weekend.

It looks like Woodcraft calls the product the 'tec mobil drill stand'. Their newest version appears to be the 1 tecmobil - mobile drill stand. Here's a link to it on their website:

It appears to be available through Amazon for $71.59 which includes shipping from the UK. It's sold by 'Big Red Toolbox UK' whom I have purchased from in the past. I had no issues other than the time it takes to receive an item which ranges from 2-4 weeks.

It does not appear that WABECO offers this still of drill stand any longer? At least I couldn't locate it on their website, and only found a couple of ebay.uk auctions for it.

Since it's past my bedtime, I may be hallucinating. If not, I've just found something available cheaper in Australia than the UK or US:

Sontax Collar Drill - Bunnings

It's either the same as or a very close copy of the Axminster guide..

It looks to be identical - probably made in the same factory, possibly on the same day as the Axminster one.

At that price it's not only cheap enough to give it a try, it's darned near disposable!

Here is one where it chucks into the drill so you don't have to worry about fitting your drill. Just tighten the chuck.

Yep, that is the exact one I have, I like it because you can drill at an angle too.

The Wolfcraft stand looks great, especially since it has built-in dust collection. I need a portable drill stand to complete my MFT-style work bench but the cheap ones on Amazon don't have a 1/2" chuck. Does anyone know if the dust collection port will fit a Festool vac? I didn't see any details in the product manual about the port size.

Ummm not sure where the dust collection is.

The big black handle is just a safe place for you to hold.

I personally dont have one but have a mate who does and it is not the most accurate thing. If you need something on occasion. This will fit the bill.
