You think im joking! You could come in with a broken hand and end out coming out in a bag because you caught some disease while they opporated. Okay maybe took a bit far but some people would of been better of home than in some hospitals as their homes are cleaner no ly
I lived in Holland for 10 years and the hospitals are WAY WAY better and I been a few times in the Dutch hospitals.

Do we still own Rolls royce and aston Martin?!?! Do we still own anything any more?!?! We lost cadburys now.

Haa Haa Tea lol thats all we are good for! Our cup of tea!

I hope Joiner does get better soon! Im sure he will be fine!

JMB, dont worry I know exactly what you mean about hospitals in general here in the UK. Epsom A&E where very good with me and I cannot complain but they did want to send me to st Georges in Tooting for the plastic surgery as they say they have contracts with them. We as a family have a lot of experience with plastic surgery as my eldest son James was born with a very nasty birthmark on his face and ears, most of his early years were spent at the Chelsea & Westminster hospital having pioneering plastic surgery I wont go in to great detail but put it this way he looks amazing now. Anyway going back to me that was why I pushed Epsom to try and refer me to Chelsea & Westminster instead of st Georges as we know its a great hospital with really nice staff who do a great job and hopefully im in good hands.

Im up there Wednesday for my first physio session gotta jump on the tube to get up there only trouble I have to look at that CRAPPY football club as i walk to the hospital  [laughing]

Glad you been able to go to a good hospital you want and trusted.  My girlfriend is training to be a Midwife and she's been in couple hospitals and said some are rubbish Stafford is one of them she mentioned.

OI! I am offended!  You are dissin the UK  [tongue]! We buy from you  [tongue]! Well that's all we do buy! Import! Which of coarse is not sustainable and that's why we are in this state.  15 years I give the UK to be same as a 3rd world country if this goes on! We wont even own our land any more then lol!  [crying] [crying]

Really sorry to hear about this Chris, but at least it'll make a good story in years to come, huh?  Fingers crossed that it all goes well.

Cheers,
Rick

ps sorry about the 'fingers crossed' comment, it seemed amusing at the time...  [doh]

On Oct 4 of last year we were unloading some cabinets to install when the fella on the other end of the cabinet decided to make a sudden move when he reached the bottom of the ramp off the truck. I of course was still on the ramp albeit momentarily as the change in balance caused me to trip over the side of the ramp and said cabinet smashed off my ring finger and my pinky at the most extreme knuckle. They managed to re attach the ring finger though it's fused at that joint and the pinky was mulch so it was sent to compost. I spent six months out of work because of infection risks, so I know exactly where you're coming from.

Still working on that LED flash light prosthetic though. [big grin]

Plug through you'll survive, I considered it a sacrifice to the God of wood so that he me reward me with great success in the future  [big grin] [big grin]

Wishing you all the best, mate, and that you recover fully soon.

Paint your cast yellow and do your best flat eric impression.

Ya cutting your fingers off is the wimpy way to do it, so clean and instant. Real tough guys smash them off. The biggest thing for me is I worry that everyone looks at my hand and thinks that I'm careless or unsafe, I've always tried to be as cautious as I can around power tools or anything for that matter. I'm a lot grumpier I guess when it comes to moving heavy things as I make sure everyone goes really slow, they shut up with stupid chatter and pay attention to what they're doing. Hand injuries are really common in our field and they can happen at any time and in a flash. Please let me know how surgery takes for you, and here's hoping you recover fully. My injuries are livable and I'm able to do my job but I do have to work around them to a small degree.

I try to look at these things as important lessons in the "way of the woodworker", all this stuff is fun and challenging but it can bite us at any time.

Anyone here had similar can you tell me how you got on please give me some hope also we are off to disney orlando in 8 weeks [eek]

Sorry to hear!

Just yesterday, I had my first wood-related injury and it was not very serious, thank God. In a very stupid manner I left an aluminum ruler within the blade's reach on the miter saw table. It had been used to measure a wood stick to be cut into shorter strips. When the blade hit the ruler it cut in in half, with one of the pieces hitting me on my left thumb. A 3/4 x 1/4" portion of the skin next to the nail was hanging from my finger with a lot of blood all over the place.  The panic I felt for a split second, thinking that I might have lost my finger or a portion of it can't be described. I composed myself when i saw it was just a nasty-looking cut and no serious damage had been done. It was a superficial, if big, cut and I ultimately decided not to go to the hospital. I cleaned the area, applied an antibiotic cream and bandaged the finger. Today it is dry, but there is a huge black and blue area around my nail. I consider myself very lucky!

In your case, just count your blessings, go to Disney and enjoy yourself. Yes, things will get a bit tight because you're self-employed, but you must always remember that they would be a lot tighter if you had lost a hand, a limb or even died in a car accident. There is a lot worse that could happen to anyone at any minute. Such is life.

Good luck!
