Dont worry i was joking  [laughing]

I went in for first check today, no infection thank God and all seems well. They made me a new splint where i can now see all my digits so i can start exercising the fingers. Everything is a bit swollen right now stitches come out next friday. no driving for 8 weeks. So far so good. [big grin]

Good to hear! do you have mobility in the cut finger? What's the doc saying in that regard? any loss in feeling?

I just saw nurses yesterday and very nice they were too  [big grin] they seem very happy with things i can move the finger that was operated on but where its taped up over stitches its stiff. I have to do a couple of exercises basically curling my fingers to my palm every 2 hours using my other hand then just using the fingers themselves they seem much better already but the cut finger is still completely numb above the cut not sure how long it takes to come back will do a google on it now  [laughing]

heres a similar operation to mine if your not squeemish take a look Flexor tendon repair by Utah Plastic Surgeon Dr. York Yates.

Just like threading a meat needle, nothing to it! [big grin] Could only imagine what this would cost in the states, being Canadian my surgery's were covered by our provincial Health plan. As i understand it England has a similar if not better (probably better) health program, am I right in assuming that?? The operation seems simple enough, as long as the tendon grows back into itself you shouldn't have a problem. I'm sure there's quite a bit of swelling right now but that does subside.

The video did bring back some memory of looking at my fingers in a twisted bunch. I told the doctors, "as long as I can hold a pint and punch someone in the face if I need to I'll be fine with it all", which I can  [big grin]

How exactly did you cut yourself? you get an Idea of how deep it had to be to sever the tendon by looking at the vid

Dont go there JMB no point getting depressed about the state of our country, going up to London yesterday on the tube reminded me that i am a foreigner in my own country can we leave it there as i dont feel like starting a rant right now  [laughing]

Ghost, it all sounds simple just have to wait and see how it heals there are a few complications like it could stay numb and the tendon could snap again if im not careful. The damage was done from a whack from a Stanley knife with a new blade in it i say whack as it was more of a chop than a slice action.

sorry  [tongue]

I cant help it! Upsets me!!  [crying]

Its always a new blade!  Every time I cut my self with a stanley its always a new blade.  I was lucky! I was cutting lead had some pressure and I slipped over my thumb but I hit the lead again which stopped me and but it still cut deep and cut through my nail like butter. My thumb now is slightly out of shape as I didnt want to go hostpital so I got a plaster and rapped it over the top pulling it back together and then some tape around the thumb to keep it their took a while to stay closed as I removed the plaster it opend up again.  No where near as bad as yours I hope it does heal fine and you have it fully functional

thank you dean!

The stupidest thing I've done was sink a freshly sharpened 1" chisel in between my thumb and fore finger on my left hand. luckily no nerve or tendon damage just another scar and some stitches I wont go into details but I recall thinking to myself seconds before it happened "this is really stupid, this chisel is gonna wind up stabbing me in the hand" then bang. I don't take any chances now though that didn't stop from my fingers getting smashed off.

Easy to say it Dean ,

I have been a pretty careful carpenter for over 20 years now , never had any stitches before never really had any serious injuries apart from my back which is more lack of exercise. Then last week i dont know how this happened it was over so quick I think i would remember if i did something stupid but who knows. Annoying bit is my golf was just getting good, down to around 20 handicap and broke 40 on the 9 hole i play on, wont be playing that for a while  [sad]
