Hand tool insert.

Yeah, I use the Festool one but it is far from ideal for my needs. Haven't got around to making my own. Right now I just keep a bunch of finish carpentry stuff in it. It's *ahem* somewhat organized but I need to work out a better way soon.

Nice job on your insert VW Mick. Yours looks a bit more pro than mine. (maybe its the green colour) .

Just weighed it 38 kilos (83lbs) not bad. much lighter than my old toolbox.

Ollie

Great to see the Estwing WF21LM in there, Mick. I use the same hammer and love it!

Best,
Dave

Is that one of the `weight forward` type hammers.

My mate had one and I tried it quite a few times, never could get the hang of it for some reason. He used to love it though.

This is the hammer ...I really like it had one a long time most guys I know can't get on with it

About to embark on doing my own version, I think though I'll probably divide things over a couple of systainers combined with a sortainer Sys 3 sort 4 underneath. the op's weighs in a 83 lbs!

Here's mine, kinda in progress.  Been busy using it so I've not made progress in months but I couldn't be more happy with how it keeps the stuff I use all in one place and extremely portable.

Thanks!  Been using it a lot lately and am really enjoying having the tools right there with me on a project.

They look cleaner in the picture than they really are.  I suppose it helps I try to keep them clean too (and I have cheapie tools I use for abusive stuff).

For who have used the T-loc Sys 5's, can you provide the weights loaded? How are they holding up? I noticed from Ollie's post for the classic sys 5 that he used, it's holding 83 lbs (yikes).  I made my own using a classic 5 and it carry's a mere 43 lbs loaded. I like the idea of 4 connection points (two back, two front) rather than 3 (two back, one front), but maybe my paranoia is being misplaced.

I'd like to make 3 more for my sons, but I'm not having any luck coming up with classic 5's and figure the T-locs might have to do it.

Any advice among those who have hauled heavier stuff in their T-loc 5's?

I wouldnt be too concerned about the weight they'll take a lot before they go. We've made up a stack of systainer tlocs about 1.5 meters high full of tools and although not practical the handle did not show any signs of giving way whilst lifting the stack to move it around.

Hi everyone

I would just like to say that I am very happy to see so much ingenuity and variety going on with these hand tool inserts.

I have been using mine now for a long time ( since original post ) and have found it the best way to carry tools in and out of houses for different jobs, I normally put my Sys 5 down pull out the insert and set it on top for great tool access.
Since posting mine and seeing all the other versions people have come up with I am considering making a new version, I would change very little of the design as it has proven extremely practical in daily use. I think I would make it from nicer plywood rather than random scraps as the original was a bit experimental really.

Scorpion, is that black stuff on your plywood a rubber sheet or something or phenolic plywood? it looks nice.

I have some ideas for making more of these inserts for other tools too, its just a question of getting some time to have a go at them.

Cheers

It's Formica.  I liked the idea of being able to clean it and the durability it adds.  Stole the concept from a pic I found online.

I too have aspirations to build other inserts when I get time.  Think the first two will be an insert for my oscillating tool and one for organizing my MFT accessories (though I'll likely end up needing multiple Systainers to actually do so).

Thanks Scorpion.

I think it lends a professional appearance to the insert, will see what I can find. I was also considering painting it with something robust like truck bed liner.

Glad to see someone else is thinking of new ways to adapt systainers too.

I have been thinking about using strategically placed magnets for smaller or awkward things.

Cheers

Ollie
