Here are a pair of workbenches that I made for my grandchildren, along with a pair of toolboxes that I also made. So that they would have some things to make and the ability to make them, I purchased a pair of Stanley “Real Tools For Kids”, a few projects from Lowe’s, pegboard hooks, glue, Harbor Freight clamps, and a glue gun with glue sticks. I also made up a couple of “kits” so that they could make bird houses. They were all fun projects, and the grandkids were surprised and excited, so it all worked out well.

Great idea and nice looking benches. I am sure they will enjoy them and also the time spent with you learning to use the tools.

How big is the bench top?

Terrific idea... [thumbs up]  [thumbs up] ...and also some great projects for them to start working on.  [big grin]

I also received my first "Handy Andy" tool chest from my grandparents when I was about 8 years old. The chisel was held back for obvious reasons, but the hammer was taken away after I drove several nails into my grandparent's vinyl flooring.  [doh]

Ya gotta start somewhere.  [cool]

The items that I built for the grandchildren were all based on published plans...

Kids' Workbenches

Tool Boxes

Bird House "Kits"

Due to the "scrap wood" supply in my shop, I only needed to purchase a piece of pegboard for the benches and two cedar fence posts for use in the bird house kits.

Many years ago my Aunt and Uncle bought their youngest son a carpenters tool kit for children with tools that actually worked.
Christmas morning they awoke to the sound of sawing... Stuart was sawing with industrious endeavour through the bottom newel post
of their staircase  [eek]
He'd awoke early, found the first present with his name on and gone to town. [big grin]

That's really cool! The benches are great gifts. Everything they'll learn from Grandpa is even better. Happy (belated) Hanukkah!

Thank you Tyler.  I hope you and the other Festoolians have a great holiday and Happy New Year!!

Please give my regards to Minni, Brian, and Steve, and tell them that I've been getting the grandkids ready to take their first Festool classes when they're prepared to move on...
