Just a little piece of trivia.

Tomorrow marks the fourth anniversary of the FOG becoming public out on it's own in this format. It had existed on Yahoo prior.

Excerpts from a quote from Mathew on January 21,2007 :

"Hello All,

It's the night before we go public, right on my original schedule for 1/22/07.

You have all been extremely helpful over the past few days in getting this effort underway.  I'm proud to have such intelligent members willing to devote their valuable time, thought, and energy to this project!  There's no way that I, on my own, could have thought of everything you've all contributed.

One last major addition to this forum is a set of rules and etiquette I added today.  Of course, this might have to be expanded in the coming weeks and months, but I hope this is a good start.

I wanted to create something that is different from the typical forum rules we see everywhere, something that encourages personality and lively thinking, while also maintaining control...

Tomorrow's the big day!

Stay in touch,
Matthew Schenker"

Happy Anniversary FOG!    [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

Mathew nailed this right on. Happy anniversary.

I remember the old yahoo site, that seems like a lifetime ago. Boy, time flies.

Yeah that old Yahoo site had that horrible database table where you could list the tools you owned.

FOG has come a long way since then.  Thanks for Matthew for starting it, Festool for embracing it and the members for making it a great place to learn and share.

Well said! [thumbs up]

Woot! It only took me 4 years to crest 2,000 posts. I'm going to retire now.  [blink] Happy anniversary FOG members!

I think 4 years on the internet is like 500 people years.... [big grin]
Congrats to all.

I've only been here about three years, but I've learned so much and been forced  [wink] to buy so many more tools that I continue to enjoy.  Keep up the good work!  [big grin]

Wow, late to this post, but thanks Pete for reminding us.

Best run and most informative resource/forum out there.

And yes, echo all the sentiments posted.

Well done.

Bob

Good Evening,
Ah yes, I thought a lot about this milestone in late January, and wasn't sure if others would remember.  This is the first chance I've had to check in since then, and I'm glad to see this discussion.  Thanks Peter for remembering.

With my new perspective, I've been able to see it all as an ongoing story -- all its amazing moments, personal connections, lots of amazement on my part that it actually worked, and of course the occasional (and now regrettable) bumps along the way.  I do sometimes wish I could turn back the clock and smooth those bumps out and make the entire story perfect, but what's ever perfect in life anyway?

As it was the day the FOG was created, this is a special place, with lots of really interesting and creative people, and an unusual company as the reason for coming together.

It's a good story, still in the telling.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Nice to hear from you Matthew and I, for one, miss your frequent particiapation in the forum that you created.

Good to hear from you Mathew and Happy Anniversary to the current FOG forum.

I sorta joined around the tail end of the old Yahoo site and must admit that the current user interface made it so much easier for all of us and this was crucial in the current forum growth. Yeah, we had some bumps along the way but this has helped build this community and really, this is probably one of the most creative and constructinve forums out there

Cheers
Dan Clermont
