Has anyone found a good holster for the CXS?

I love my new CXS and if it fit my current holster it would be the only drill I use 95% of the time.  Yes, it has the side clip but I find the metal clips a bit fiddly to use, basically I have to use two hands, one to pull my tool belt to the side and one to hold the drill.  With the traditional style drills (Bosch 12V mini, and my T series Festool) I use a holster.  I may be the only one, but I much prefer the holster.  Any options proven for a CXS style drill?  Thanks...joe

Well, because the CXS is the only drill with this form factor and Festool doesn't make holsters, don't expect an off-the-shelf solution.

The best solution I have seen so far is a single strap with either a snap or velcro.  Loop the strap around your belt and through the handle of the CXS (which is enclosed so it cannot fall out) and close the strap.  The drill will still dangle but cannot fall out like could happen with the clip.

(Personally I just use the clip though. :))

I like the strap idea.

I realize that Festool doesn't make a holster and that nobody else would make one dedicated.  I was wondering anyone had found a holder or bag designed for some other purpose that worked well...joe

Try Blade Tech. They make (very good) kydex handgun holsters. They have recently started making drill holsters. Even though they probably don't have one for the CXS, if you ask, they may let you ship them your drill and make you a custom one. They do this with handguns all the time, and usually don't charge any extra becuase they also make a template so they have it for the next guy. Its a win/win for them.

Funny thing, I don't really need a holster for my cxs as I hook the clip quite comfortably on my tool belt. I was thinking of some sort of hoist for the chuck heads though. I keep the right angle on me at all times just floating in a pouch and I often have the jacobs with a tapered counter sink / pilot bit in it. would love to have those two guys in a dedicated holster.  was considering asking occidental if they would do one up.

Is there a real need for a holster?  Remember who is asking [eek].  Should it be leather or other?  How many eighties versus lefties?

I am really interested to know.

If you go with a strap, a cat collar works really well for a roll of tape, may work for the drill as well. Pet section of the supermarket....

Joe,

I agree! I have never found the metal clips to work unless I have a pocket on the tool belt that will take it. Maybe being a slim guy.... belts are different for others.

I too prefer a holster to using the provided belt clip.

I really have to ask how many of us have had  the belt clip miss and drop the drill.... on to a floor and dent wood or break tile? it has to be many!

I don't yet have CXS, but I will, also like you want to use it with a holster....

As a firearms instructor that teaches part time at police training facility. I can lead you to more than one custom holster maker...but  it would be custom from what they normally make... and might be more than the drill...

So I'm also looking for currently made holsters...

Cheers,
Steve

Well, there is a contraption available that's basically a plastic ball on a rubber band, and a matching hook to hold the ball. The rubber band loops thru the handle, and there are two hooks... One clips onto your pocket, one clamps onto the ladder. I know Festool released one a few years back.

Have you tried it?  If so tell us how it worked for you?

Steve -

I have one of those elastic strap drill holders.  The one I have is a promotional item from Festool but they are made by a third party for them.

You can find them here:  http://www.amazon.com/Bigg-Lugg-BL2-3BM-Holding-Bungee-Balls/dp/B0002IGHKW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311901651&sr=8-1

The one I have came with both a belt hook and a clamp on ladder hook as well.

I really like them - very easy to attach to the drill and get the drill in and out of the hook on your belt.  Great price.  I have this on a Festool T-drill

I have the CXS and find the belt clip that comes with it to work pretty well.  But the elastic holder will give you a more secure hold.

I abandoned the elastic/black ball thing as the elastic strap was uncomfortable after a long day.  I'd like a custom holster for the CXS and the C12 please Peter - and I'm a lefty.  The C12 has fallen out of my bucket boss holster too many times. (Tool belts seem only just to be catching on here other than with roofers - I brought mine back from the US about 10 years ago)

Probably because most of the tool belts available here in the UK are dross.

Have a look here they do amazing toolbelts and accessories such as drill holsters

I don't yet have CXS,  (and sure won't have a shot at one in the current contest from what Festool admin wrote to me)... a whole different story...

I want to set the record straight that there is nothing prohibiting Steve R entry into the contest. Never did I state or insinuate that he would not be eligible to participate in the contest. I have asked Steve multiple times via PM what this is about and have yet to receive a response. Since it couldn't be resolved privately, I feel I have no choice but to respond to the allegations publicly.

I thought it was because of all his 3rd hands and his new relationship with Jon at FastCap?  [big grin]

The saga begins.  I don't have a CXS or a C-12, but here is a start for a T-15 custom molded.  It is sized oversized at this point.  Working on the pattern.

See.  I wasn't kidding.  [big grin]

Brice,

But I like the feel and smell of leather.  Besides,  after all the discussions about kilts lately, I anticipate that the next turn - maybe downward - will be tool holding chaps.  Just trying to stay ahead of the curve.  Maybe Ken will do a review for us.  [scared]
