Has Festool discontinued the LR32 set?

I had a customer who is eyeing our remaining LR 32 set because he told me that he had heard it was being discontinued....I am talking about Festool 584100 LR 32 Hole Drilling Set In Systainer 1. The components are still available separately but Festool USA has no listing that I can find for the set....perhaps this is just another transfer to the Sys 3 systainers? In any case, thanks in advance for any info on this subject....

I haven't heard anything, but that isn't unusual.  You should probably reach out directed to your Festool RSM for the most accurate news.  My guess is that it is a swap over to the new Systainer style.

Thanks for that....I could only find that on the festool.de site so that's good news I guess. I'll contact my RSM and ask him to make enquiries. It's an item we sell a couple of a year to small cabinet building entrepreneurs so my customer base would miss it.

Why use pointed drill over flat drill?

The flat end drill allows you to go deeper without going through.
The pointed bit makes a cleaner cut when you do need to go through.

If you are drilling into a spoil board on the through cuts.  Don't expect melamine to be forgiving on the exit hole.

Maybe was not selling at $595.  The loose kit is $300 with no bits, which is also over priced more than reasonable festool pricing as well, in my opinion anyways. Thinking would get it if was under $200, like $155 or $185.

As Peter mentioned, it is a change in systainer. The new item number for the set is 576799. No change to the contents. We sell an ample amount of them and no indication from Festool of it being discontinued.

Get just the plate alone. That is the hardest to replace/customise part. I got the "small" set and doing it second time would go just for the plate and use the spare money for a TSO PGS to get accurate rail placement.

The plate looks like "cheap stamped steel" but it is none of that. It is stamped from a high quality hardened steel and work very well.

The kit in Systainer has increased about 25% in the past 12 months...

584100 is being replaced by 576799

Someone at Festool screwed up, because the main 'photo' of 576799 shows a Sys3 M137 while the next photo with open Systainer AND the description show M112. Whoever did that render probably thought... 'OK... we are upsizing everything for more wasted space, so this one is no exception'. Even Festool can't handle the Sys3  [tongue]

I did get it, years ago, but then it was still about ~300 euros if I remember right. Currently it's north of 500...

If your savings are in Rheinmetall stock you are still fine though...  [blink]

That will be the "especially tightly packed" mark-up.

The M112 seems to be very rare even where it makes all kinds of sense - the router bit insert and the set with the FS-WA both come in M137 for no good reason.

Before Sys3 there were already people transplanting the router bit insert to a (T-Loc) Sys II. Some long bits don't fit inside the Systainer 1 / 112 size. The latter especially has less vertical internal height due to the insanely ribbed bottom.

My longest bit is 110mm total length. It inhibits my router bit Classic Systainer I horizontally.

Yeah, the guide rail accessory Systainer going 137... no clue about that either. I guess one way of reducing lid bending is by adding more air to the Systainers so you can just carry a Systainer less in the stack...

The new symmetric saw also discarded the SYS1/112 height and went straight for the 137.

At least that makes sense if they are making the 137 the most common size now. Maybe if they think a bit longer they will realize the Sys3 doesn't stack to MFT-3 height as easily as the previous generations did...
