Have saw; no batteries

Big Brown (aka:  Santa Claus of Sedan) just showed up with my new TSC55.  Naturally I ripped right into the miles of cello tape and air pack to see the new toy.  To quote Pvt Pyle, "Surprise!  Surprise!  Surprise!", no batteries.  Ohhh-kay; back to the website.  Included is saw, manual and Sys 5 case.  Foolish, foolish I.  to assume that a saw that runs on batteries might come with some.  Or that the web page might mention batteries are extra.  Checking with Festool tech support I find that in order to get batteries and charger you gotta go with the "XL" option and add to the collection of track that currently hovers around forty feet worth.  So I figure that the "accessories" page might make mention of the batteries.  Nope.  Just the splinter guard.  How does one make splinters to guard against without motive power you might ask?  I give up; how?  Further enquiry determines that the batteries are $65 apiece.  Can you spell bait and switch?  (Other than that, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?)  Festool and company, I think you are having a flat Johnson moment; as in jumping on same.

There are three options as already stated while I was writing this...

561702 comes with the batteries, 2 chargers and guide rail.

561708, the XL version, comes with the batteries, 2 chargers and no guide rail.

561730 comes with no batteries, no chargers, and no guide rail.

It is really a great option to be able to buy tools without batteries and charger if you already have them from another tool. Batteries and charger often cost more than the tool itself. This is a very common thing in power tool world, almost all professional brands offer these "basic" packages, so I'm a bit surprised this seems to be new to you.

$65 for a battery.... man that's a great price, in The Netherlands 18 volt batteries cost €112.

It is a little confusing looking at the website as it lists the batteries and charger on the basic version, but I read elsewhere that they were not included in the basic set.

Actually, if it was included it would have a green check mark next to it. Since it doesn't it means NOT INCLUDED.

You'll right, but it's still confusing.

Offering the saw without batteries makes a lot of sense if you already own a tool like the T-18 drill that includes 2 18v batteries and a charger that can be used with the saw.  This is the option I would buy if I decide to buy the saw.

So should the arbour size have a green tick next to it because I am sure it is the size it says?  [unsure]

I also noticed that when I got my TSC55 it came with no wood. As you can imagine, I was devastated ! [embarassed] [sad]

I will have the Festool website updated to better outline the packages.
If there are any questions regarding the website I can be contacted via PM here, email @ bsh@festoolusa.com or by calling the number listed below.

I just checked the listings for the TSC 55 saws, and under accessories, all that's listed is the the Splinterguard 5 pack.

Shouldn't things like batteries, blades, and other guide rails be listed if they can be used with the saw?

We are currently updating the site, and those will be added shortly.

Come on man. Do some proper research first. Never check with only one source.... Even if it's the manufacturer.

There are various sellers that have outlined the options properly on their website.

Granted the whole new system of selling tools was more detailed described on the German Festool website and I have the benefit of being able to read German but there is enough info out there here in the U.S. that everyone should be aware of this.....

I think it's called doing your home work.
Surely the price of a new TSC without batteries and charger would have been a whole lot cheaper than the full set. Would this not set off some alarm bells like why is this new saw so cheap, there's a whole lot of folks out there that just need spoon feeding.

Brent has already said that he is working to have the website changed.

Most readers probably think that I am totally Festool green because I am a Moderator.  I'm not.

I have read time and time again about issues with the descriptions and what is included. They are not clear enough for the NA market.  The illustrations and descriptions should be accurate and the scope of delivery should be clear to more than those producing the catalog and website.

Yes, Festool USA really needs to work to make it's online descriptions more accurate. And use photos of the actual set/package/accessory instead of using a generic one.

I fully sympathize with the OP on this one. I looked at the website and and under the Basic option is written "Battery Included." Yes, it doesn't have a green tick next to it, but it is confusing. Why should you have to check with multiple sources to get accurate info? Surely the manufacturers website should be the de facto authority?!

The Festool UK site is much clearer. Under items included it states "without battery pack."

I am sure Brent/ Festool will redesign the website to be better soon.

I also agree the website needs a slight update.  However, I really like the fact that festool added the basic option on cordless tools and the made the batteries very price competitive.
