Hello everyone,

I signed up here a bit ago after falling in love with the Festool "system" from a distance. I discovered FOG through another forum, Garage Journal, and some particular threads over there by Festool enthusiasts. In short, I love tools that are well thought out and precision. I have a small garage workshop (18'x20') that I share with two cars, so organization and efficiency are really important to me. I'd describe myself as an amateur woodworker with a few projects under my belt but so much more to learn. I'm 31 years old and my main goal is to build furniture for, and do carpentry on, my house.

Only recently did I pick up my first Festool purchase, the ETS 125 REQ Plus.  [big grin]

I'm pretty excited about it. I have some other non-Festools in Tanos systainers, as well as a homemade MFT/paulk bench and Makita track saw. And plans to make a new diy MFT / Sysport / Tracksaw Station combo unit in the near future.

Anywho, just wanted to give a short intro, and thank everyone who has contributed here. I've already gotten a ton of useful ideas for my own shop from these forums. I've found that it's not just the Festools that are attractive to me, but the mindset of those who use them and all the inventive and efficient jigs that come with that.

Cheers!
-Nick

Welcome to the forum! Seems like a common trend of 30 somethings being drawn to Festool. Myself included. It's a great community.

[member=70130]nicholam77[/member] - welcome to the FOG - one of the best kept secrets of the powertool world.
We'll thank [member=63929]AtomicRyan[/member] and his Garage Journal for lighting the way to the FOG for you.

ACME  Tools in Minnetonka has a tremendous selection of FESTOOL abrasives last time I looked.  Some knowledge people on the sales floor at WOODCRAFT on LYndale, but you already know that.
We look forward to pictures of your project(s) and questions, too!

Welcome, @nicholam77. Those videos that @AtomicRyan did are pretty great. I enjoyed following his build.

Welcome to the forum, Nick.  [smile]

Interesting first Festool considering the similar DeWalt stacked below it.

Thanks! I've definitely noticed your posts before. I have a DeWalt jobsite saw, too, and love your super fence and JessEm guides mod. I might have to look into that!

Thanks, Hans! I've watched some of the YouTube videos of AtomicRyan's bench build but haven't come across his content on Garage Journal. If your familiar with Sakurama (Gregor) or lilscorpion... those are some of the GJ threads that introduced me to Festool, I believe they both were on these boards, too, at some point.

I've been to the Lyndale Woodcraft, awesome place. ACME tools... will have to check that out sometime. Thanks for the suggestions.

Haha  [big grin]

I will likely sell the DeWalt and repurpose its systainer if it becomes superfluous. I haven't had much chance to test out the ETS 125 yet other than just very quickly, but I realize they fulfill a similar purpose. Part of the reason was I wanted to test the Festool waters without breaking the bank. I figure a finish sander is something I'll use on nearly every project and can always sell my DeWalt if not needed. Or use it as backup for messier tasks, cheaper sandpaper, etc.

Hi and welcome Nick

Thanks! I like photos too... here are a few pics of things I've made:

My first ever woodworking project completed with my dad about 6 years ago, a cherry end table:

Floating bathroom vanity, solid maple with walnut + glass shelf (I bought the dovetailed drawers... everything else I made):

Very nice. I have about the America’s space to work...but not the same level of organization.
