Greetings Festool Owners Group! I am fairly new to woodworking and BRAND new to owning my first router.  So...

Right out of the box I tried to change from the 8mm to the 1/2" collet, but upon removing the collet nut, the actual collet is stuck in the spindle.
NOTE: There is no bit in the collet.
I'm afraid I may have collapsed the collet by accidently tightening the nut with no bit.  I can understand how that would ruin the nut/collet assembly, but I'm confused why the collet is stuck in the spindle.
Is there anyway to remove the stuck collet?

Feeling a little embarrassed, but eager to start routing!
Any help GREATLY appreciated

UPDATE:
Hmm... I just tightened the nut all the way down in the hope that collapsing the collet further would release it from the walls of the spindle.  Not only did it work, but the nut appears to have engaged properly with the collet again and the whole collet/nut assembly came out happy and healthy.
Still baffled why it was stuck in the first place, and why the nut became detached, but happy to have everything back in working order!

I'm sure I'll be back on here in no time with more questions...

I was excited to hear your 1010 came with a 1/2" collet.  Most seem limited to 8mm or 1/4" ;)

Big Tuna,

I suspect that the 8 mm collet will turn out to be a 1/4" collet, and the 1/2" collet will turn out to be a 8 mm collet when you put bits in them....

Once you get comfortable with the controls and the operation of 1010 router you will love it!

Welcome to the FOG

Thanks everyone!  And by the way, you're exactly right, I meant 1/4", NOT 1/2".
Up and running and having a blast.
