Help on shopping list

Agreed, except that there is an adpater that fits the 36mm hose end with the 27mm tool end.  It works beautifully.  Bill at Japan Woodworker showed it to me.   I got two (inexpensive) and I use them all the time.  Ask Bill for more details.

Second, I think there is a way to back the 36mm and 27mm hoses together by a Festool fitting without needing tape.  I'm not sure which adapter, maybe someone else can chime in on this.

With the adapters, I now use the 36mm hose all the time no matter which tool I am using.

Dave Rudy,

Excellent point about changing the tool end fitting of the 36mm hose to enable it to couple to Festool products with a small DC nozzle!

If there is a Festool adapter that enables coupling the tool end fitting of the 36mm hose to the vacuum end fitting of the 27mm hose, I'm very interested, but I cannot determine that from what is posted at FestoolUSA's website or in their 2007 USA catalogue.  The nearest best I could find (with Bob Marino's help) was a replacement end fitting and a coupler the enables the vacuum end fittings of two Festool hoses to be joined (same as joining 2 Craftsman or other 2 1/2 inch hoses equipped with their standard end fittings.  Note that these end fittings are sized to a particular Festool hose size; one designed for 27mm hose will not fit 36mm or 50mm hose!  I bought Item # 452894, y-fitting adapter Item # 452898, suction hose adapter Item # 452897, and connector sleeve Item # 493047 and have some additional adapter/connector items from my purchase of the suction hose boom arm system Item # 492753.  To join the tool end of the 36mm hose to the vacuum end of the 27 mm hose requires replacement of the tool end fitting Item # 487721 from the 36 mm hose Item # 452882 and replacement with another vacuum end fitting Item # 452894, which then renders the 36mm hose useless with my Festool high $ floor sweeper unit Item # 454767.  I don't want to have to change end fittings on my Festool hoses in order to join them end to end and then find I have to change the end fittings again in order to use the 36mm hose with Festool's high $ floor sweeper unit; that takes far too much time.  What I want is a friction fit adapter, so I made one.  Before doing that, I'll simply use and recommend Fein's Turbo II with its standards 16 ft hose and floor sweeper - the tools erfectly accept insertion of the tool end fitting of Festool 27mm hose.

If you look at the photo of Item # 487721 on FestoolUSA's website, you can see the largest diameter area of the "reducing sleeve" is located about 2 inches from it tool end.  That is where I apply a couple of wraps of vinyl electrician's tape which then enables the vacuum end fitting of any Festool hose to friction grip the tool end fitting.  Much faster than swapping hose end fittings.

Another thing I learned while experimenting with vacuum hose connections is that the elastomeric tool end fitting of Festool's 36mm hose can be force fitted over the DC outlet nozzle of JoinTech's fence (which is hollow for dust collection).  This works nicely with a table-mounted router.
