Help! Should i buy MFT?

G'day

You'll be pleased to know I ordered MFT plus some Veritas (think they're sold as Lee Valley over your side of the water? bench pups and adjustable dogs! :) Mind you I needed a few beers to pluck up the courage before i ordered online!  The one downside of Festool is the painful price [unsure]

Thank you all for your help and I'm sure I'll be in touch with some questions regarding set up when it comes.  Is it really that sad to get excited about receiving a new tool? please tell me its not just me! ;D

Russ,

Congrats on your decision.  They say that when you buy the best you are only sorry once.  They also say that the difference between men and boys is the size (price) of their toys.

When I buy my Festools I always have to swallow hard before I pull the trigger.  Then the tool comes and that's when the fun begins.

You need this:

Jerry works starter is still the best for any newbie to the MFT table, IMHO..

He also shows the large extrusion table. I have two of the large tables he shows with the long extrusions, now that I have them I could never go without them.

Those were the older MFT profiles.  I do not see where Festool sells long profiles for the newer MFT/3.  Are they available?

Nope, they do not sell that length in the new profile, but they still sell the long ones in the old profile.

Maybe some day they will change it, but as far as I know it has not happened yet.

I use those Veritas bench pups in my MFT all the time. If I want to cut a narrow piece of wood (i.e. thinner than the guide rail), I make sure the guide rail is parallel to a row of dog holes, insert the adjustable bench pups in two holes parallel to the rail, then slide a piece of stock the same thickness as the one I am cutting against the pups and under the guide rail, and finally butt the stock to be cut against that. Then I adjust the pups to get the right sized cut.

Quick and easy. Certainly easier than the description! Hope this makes sense.

Richard.
