Help with dealing with tear out

I have surfaced several kinds of figured wood on my Hammer A3-41 with the silent power cutter and had no tear-out.  The wood supplier must not have a very good planer.

At this point a very sharp hand plane will probably be your best bet for not taking off too much additional mass.

I worked on this wood for a little while with my LN 62 and it is getting a little better. What I'm thinking about doing now is buying a nicer piece of figured wood to use for the front rail or just use some of my cleaner soft maple.
