I recently bought a Festool Air Sander with the whole air unit connected to a CT33. There was no documentation and I can't find anything in the way of a manual or instructions in any of the usual places.

Does anyone have one of these and can you help with basic stuff like how big of an air compressor you need to run one, pressure settings, etc.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,
I don't know anything about the Festool air tools, although the hose assembly interests me greatly.
I can however tell you that an autobody shop random orbit (DA) sander uses a ton of air.
I have what is known as a screw drive air compressor to keep up with air tools at my shop.
Simpler terms: before the screw drive, I had 2, 100 gallon air tanks hooked into the main compressor.
A DA would empty the tanks, causing the compressor to kick in every 5 minutes or so. I would think a RO 150
would be in this same realm of air usage.
HTH, If you need, I can get the cfm's from a DA and the line pressures for you.
You can also go here http://us.kaeser.com/ you can get sizes needed at the site

Jim,

I can check for the literature on the Festool air units. 16 CFM is the number I remember.

Jim,
Just sitting here thinking, usually a dangerous, (and very expensive) thing for me to do.
A 30 gallon, 6 hp, 6 cfm @90 psi compressor would probably keep up with one sander no problem.
Although it may run quite a bit. Make sure you use a drier with it, a lot of moisture builds in
conventional air compressors from the heat. I would suggest an oil unit, rather than dry.
This will probably be quite loud as well, you may want to build an enclosure for it.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Festool air-powered sanders are available here in the UK and quite often can be found second-hand on www.ebay.co.uk

The following models are listed on the Festool UK website:

LEX 2 125/3 - Sanding pad diameter 125 mm and stroke 3 mm
LEX 2 125/7 Sanding pad diameter 125 mm and stroke 7 mm
LEX 2 150/3 Sanding pad diameter 150 mm and stroke 3 mm
LEX 2 150/7 Sanding pad diameter 150 mm and stroke 7 mm
LEX 2 150/11 Sanding pad diameter 150 mm and stroke 11 mm
LEX 2 185/7 Sanding pad diameter 185 mm and stroke 7 mm

LRS 93 Sanding pad 93 x 175 mm and stroke 4mm
LRS 400 Sanding pad 80 x 400 mm and stroke 4mm (note the length of this pad!)

All of them have air consumption at rated load = 390 litres per minute, and Operating pressure (flow pressure) = 6 bar.

According tohttp://www.onlineconversion.com/flow_rate_volume.htm 390 litres per minute = 13.8 cubic feet per minute.

Instruction manuals for them can be found in the Downloads -> User Manuals -> Air Tools section of the Festool UK website.

Thank you all very much for your help. I'm still hoping to find something specific to the Air unit itself, the pressure valve and lubrication part, as well as the connections to the CT.

Jim, here's a download link for the manual of the "service unit" as festool calls the thing: link

edit/ you can find it aswell under the "workplace organisation" section of the link Forrest gave.
