Hidden fasteners for decking, which system do you like best?

Sq/ft prices are bunk.  I hate them.

Yes they are. They are the most inaccurate and useless way to estimate anything.

figuring out the Vergola system.  Imagine an overhead venetian blind type structure in place of a pergola.  As it turns out there aren’t many of these in the States, in fact the nearest one is in New Jersey.

Brice:
Looks good, nice project.
Thanks for the detailed post.
I wonder how that vergola system will weather the winters, or more precisely how it would do up here in SW Ontario where we get some weird version on winter with a few days of some nice freezing rain which makes the trees look like giant popsicles.

I found this on You Tube this morning (I would have posted it earlier, but I did not know it was out there) while looking at something else Chuck had sent me. It is the Fasten Master I.Q. system being installed. Sorry about the Bosch drill, but Chuck would not let me use his T15, you know how it is.

Attaching Deck Boards

Yes it is a little late for this thread, hopefully it will help at a latter date.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but it seems like the right place to ask my question as it pertains to deck fasteners.

Has anyone here used the CAMO fastening system and what do you think of it?

I have.

Its not bad.  I have 2 of each the large and small Camo Marksman.  You need two mainly if boards are slightly bent you stick one down futher along to maintain gap as you work along and if you have a friend he can also get on with screwing.

I dont know why but the small one has a very large range of boards adjustment but the large one doesnt.

From memory they dont overlap which is odd.

Looking at them I am 100% sure they can make one Camo Marksman to do the entire board width range.  Oh well more money for them I suppose.

My main dislike with camo fixings were the wide gaps between each board. I prefer slightly tighter gaps.

I bought the larger ones later on because I got a job which had wider boards the smaller Marksman couldnt handle.  Well the new ones come with two types of spacers which you can swap round.  This allows you to have much tighter gaps between boards.

So nice improvement!!

I dont do alot of decking so I havent used them alot.  I like them. I prefer them over tiger claws because quicker and easier.

Holding boards down im a little conserned with camo fixings because they do only fix into the corner edge which isnt a great deal of wood gripping it down.

I used the Camo system on a floating deck for my mother's house. Cedar 5/4 boards over treated sleepers, I installed it 3 years ago and when I checked it last week, everything still looked good except for the peeling Storm Category 4 paint. [sad] [mad] [crying]

Have not used it, was once going too, then found it no longer available in Aust. Has anyone else seen or used this Festool Fastening System?
