Hiding an AirTag in a Systainer

Very cool idea!

To get away from the "will they notice it in the handle?" aspect, just put another empty one on the other side of the handle and it will look like it's supposed to be there from the factory.

At least, anyone who is surly enough to steal a Festool from its owner wouldn't know enough to know what the proper Sys3 handle is supposed to look like...

Yeah that’s true and it doesn’t take very much filament to print an extra one too. Only takes about 22min to print one.

Good idea. For me remembering to replace the battery in all those Air Tags once a year (or however long they last) would be a PITA.

Clever placement of the AirTag.  [smile]

I'd try to achieve a closer match to the color of the handle with some different filament. If it were a closer color match to the handle, no one would even suspect anything.

They're supposed to last about a year but at least you don't need to remember because it will let you know when it's running low by sending your phone a notification.

Out of curiosity... why not just glue/tape it underneath the tool insert?

You could tape it inside. I think if someone stole it they might find it easier and remove it. Also not every systainer has an insert and this print is very quick and uses very little filament.

That was my initial thought too, but then I realized the exact answer you gave, some Systainers don't have inserts. Some, like Sortainers, and the assortment box sets are purchased empty.

Great idea and thanks for sharing. I have a few AirTags in a some of my Systainers but I just had them stuck under the plastic covers. This seems a bit more convenient and neater in usage, I'll give it a try.

Awesome! Let me know if you have any feedback on the design.
