HK85 generator compatibility

I plugged  into  a  old  site  generator  the other  day  and the moment  I  pressed  the trigger  on my Festool  HK85  the generator  almost  died out  and the saw never started. I did hear a slight  pfft  from  the  HK85 saw.
I then  went to  a  wall socket and it seems  my HK85  has died also.
Are generators    a big no no  with  this machine?
Or is  it just old generators that  is    the problem?

Most Festool tools require a pure sine wave generator due to the electronics on board to regulate speed of the motor, they don't take too kindly to standard construction site generators.
