Home made hose/cord sleeve

I wanted a hose sleeve but didn't want to pay for one.  My wife had some extra fabric and sewed a double thick sleeve around the hose.  Since the hose is attached to a boom arm, a full length sleeve wasn't needed.  It works great!  The hose slides over the corners of the bench very easily and the cord is secured nicely.  She's going to make me a few more for the other hoses.

Total cost: about a $0.50 in material plus one honey do.  And, there is a built in security device - no Man is going to steal a festool hose with flowers and Bears printed on it!

Very cool.

I think she should make you an apron to match!

Looks like she sewed the seam on the outside.  I was going to say that sewing the seam on the inside and then getting that turned right side out would have been a bit of a challenge!

I think it's awesome. Plies teddy bears and flowers says...."yeah....they're teddy bears and flowers.....SO WHAT....WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?!?!?!?!?.

I already have a shop apron.  I'm not man enough to wear a matching apron!  That's crossing the line in my opinion  [big grin]

This is genius. I'm going to have my aunt make me one of these with a zipper. She's a sowing connoisseur and regularly sows up my beloved work pants that my gf keeps trying to throw away. Too much info, sorry but this is a great idea tell your wife thanks!

Nice! I almost missed this thread. And I know someone that has a new sewing machine... Maybe grandpa will get a new hose-cover for Christmas.

Thanks for having the guts to share this.  [eek] [scared] [tongue]

mbs,  you made a great point, that we really only need two or three feet of hose cover for it to be effective.  Now you've got me thinking...

Thanks

Hmmm ... from bare hose to bear hose. Sneaky [wink]

Good job!  I wonder if one could achieve the same effect by using a strong velcro rather than sewing it up completely.

I have some stuff coming from wirecare.com
I'll post if it goes well... should be here next week.

The bears or "hello Kitty" are as Shelly from northern Exposure says... "so stinkin cute. ."

Wow, that's cool! I already wanted to ask my wife to give me something our of her fabric storage for something similar. Now I have an evidence that others have similar ideas. Thank you

That is a nice bit of sewing and great material.

I was about to bump into some scaffolding whilst walking past a building under repair and noticed that here in the UK the scaffolders have very neat covers for the scaffold members at street level that just zip on over the 2" poles to help people see them in low light. They must be pretty cheap as they were used on 20 -30 poles on the project and are about the right size for a 27 mm hose with a tandem cable.

I am sure that there will be an expert with the detail here any minute.

For whatever reason, the rest of my post didn't show up.

I have never seen anything like this before, but honestly have not paid attention. The scaffolding I rented to paint our house certainly didn't have anything like this on it. Wonder if it is possibly a UK thing, or something cities do, regardless of where they are in the world, as a cheap means of insurance to keep people from hurting themselves, etc.

Take a pic and post it if you see it again/think of it Peter. Interested to see.

Is this similar to what you bumped into?

Holmz...FWIW...I covered the hoses and cords of my C22 and Midi in Flexo Ogre from Wire Care. It works really well with equipment that can use large radius movements such as the TS and Domino. For small sanders that need flexibility of movement in confined spaces, the Festool zippered cloth option is a better choice.

Thanks [member=44099]Cheese[/member] ... I may say Oof-Da when it comes in, but I think I got the right stuff. Some is solely for cords.

No, what I saw was a sleeve, made of a tough nylon or synthetic material, with a zip running the whole length. The material was high viz and there was no padding at all. There was room inside for a scaffolding pole and so easily enough for a 27 mm hose and cable.
