I am in the process of revamping a new work area and I have decided to build some new cabinets to hold my L-boxxes (I know, I know...) [embarassed]

I really like both systems.  Eric has a great how to on the home built sysports and Guido has a pretty kick butt system as well.  I was wondering for guys that have both (or similar to both)  what do you like/dislike about each?  The portability/movability of the systport appeals to me.  Allows for ever changing shop layouts but the cabinets and drawers of the Chaos Cabinets is nice as well.  Keeps a great area for storage that's behind doors out of sight.

I am thinking of maybe a hybrid of sorts.  Sysports under some shallow wall mounted cabinets. (max 200mm deep) I don't want a set 400mm deep cabinets that the shelves get stacked too deep and become useless to me but I am concerned about reaching over the lower portion to get to them...

Any thoughts on the subject?

I have sys ports that I have made as well as Festool purchased.  I don't personally move them around except to clean under them so mobility was not a big consideration for me.  I also have a wall of cabinets down one side of my shop that I use a lot.

I like the advantage of wall cabinets that go up high - great for storing and gets lots of things out of dust with a much more organized workspace.  And still have workspace below them for saws, router tables, etc.

Your idea of cabinets above and Sysports below sounds like a great mix.

I also have several of the L-boxxes. I only have a couple in my shop, but have several in my work truck.

I had several sysports for over 5 years. My thought when I bought them was that my tools would be mobile.
I never moved them in the 5+ years that I owned them. This spring, someone offered to buy them. I decided to sell them.

I replaced the sysports with base cabinets that have adjustable shelves & doors.
I do not miss the pullouts of the sysports. I also feel more comfortable not having all of the Festools out in the open.

Thanks neilc and JD2720

JD, did you have your sysports set up for specific tasks?  The reason I ask is that I have some of my L-boxxes on L-dolleys and I find I have a towers of similar items that I like to pull out at different stages of a project and move to the work area. (I guess it depends on how much room you have  as well)  I think I have 5 or 6 L-boxxes with domino related items.  Same for sanding.  I also have a router table/MFT style bench with integrated L-boxx storage that I like having router items at.

I considered the bench with doors and adj shelves.  It's what I had in my old space.  I just got tired of opening a door to remove a boxx, to find a place to set it, open it and then do the reverses.  I like the pull it out and open it concept.

I had one with domino / biscuit items. Another with track saws, another routers & bits, another with with jig saws & sanders.

My sanding station & main work area are very close to each other. I had the 4 sysports setting together. I got in the habit of just just taking the systainers out & setting them on top of the sysports. When I am finished, I put them back.

One section of my cabinets is a little shorter than the height of the sysports. The cabinets have a top on them. I still pull the systainer out & set it on the top until I am finished.
