How loud is a Kapex?

What about using sound deadening or even XPS insulation in your garage and on the inside of the garage door to reduce noise levels even further?

I've thought a lot about that without actually researching what the process and cost might be, and whether I'd need to do the entire garage (it's all open studs and joists) or whether I could get away doing just the wall/ceiling corners where my neighbors' living spaces are (don't really care if their garages can hear me).  If I could put soundboard at those spots and know it would make a considerable difference I'd definitely do it.

Sound travels, especially through connected framing, so it's best to do the doors, the walls and the ceiling.

In the summer, when folks have windows open at night, there are no complaints when I'm running a thickness planer and DC.  My thickness planer has standard knives so the think is dreadfully loud.  My youngest son's bedroom window faces the garage and is maybe 20 feet straightline from window to roll-up door.  He says he can barely hear me working in the shop at night.

That's reassuring, Tim.  But those 10 feet are certainly a lot better than a single brick wall and a mechanical connection to the neighbor's house!

By the way, aren't you guys supposed to be "helping" me spend money on Festools rather than soundproofing projects?
