How to connect 4" extration outlet to CTL33

Has anyone found a neat and simple way of connecting a tool with a 4" (100mm) dust outlet (example Record Bandsaw) to a Festool CTL 33 extractor?

Ideally I am looking for a hose that has a 4" connector (bandsaw) on one end and a 21/4" connector (CTL 33) on the other, and is available in the UK.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation - Martin.

Martin,

You could try something like THIS to reduce the 4" outlet, and then attach the festool hose.

You might struggle to acheive a good level of extraction with this set-up though.

Alternatively, you could use one of THESE on the bandsaw, and then run a short length of 2 1/2" HOSE directly to the input of the CT. With this method you won't have antistatic hose, but for the bandsaw that shouldn't be a problem.

Hose reducer from Axminster any good? Not sure how the actual diameters work out, but I'd have thought there's one there that you can make work with a bit of gaffer tape/jubilee clip/hot-melt glue gun etc.. etc..  ;)

Cheers, Pete.

Do note that the vac is going to be pretty inefficient with the larger 4" dust port...nature of the beast. The Festool and similar "shop vac" type extractors are optimized for small ports where there is high static pressure (vacuum) and low air volume. Dust collection systems designed for the larger ports are exactly the opposite...low static pressure and large volumes of moving air.

I think I have found a solution to this problem.
Rutlands in the UK sell a 21/4" to 21/2" adaptor, a 21/2" to 4" adaptor and 21/2" hose to connect them together, here are the links;
Dakota Quick Adaptor - Dakota Taper Adaptor - Clear Hose

Using these items it should be possible to connect the 21/4" Festool vac inlet to the bandsaw 4" dust outlet without the need for hose clips, gaffer tape, hot melt glue etc.

It seems the 21/4" Festool vac input is an industry standard, the Trend T30 vac and an older Draper vac that I have use the same size inlet. Also the dust extraction port on the Trend Professional Router Table and the Trend Mortise and Tennon Jig are also 21/4". This makes it easy to connect them to the Festool vac using either Trend/Draper or Festool hoses with 21/4" connectors on both ends (Trend sell the T30 36mm hose and fittings as spares).

Thanks to JRB and Pete for taking the time to research the possible adaptors available and also to Jim for the comment regards LVHP compared to HVLP extraction, hopefully using 21/2" hose will help with the problem of changing from 4" to 21/4".

Martin.
