How to extract totally lodged dominoes

In fact: for dry fitting of parts I have a set of two modified dominos for each size that I keep with the machine. I drilled holes through both ends of each, sanded them down a bit for an easy fit

Maybe he needs to go to the auto parts store and find the cheapest gear puller he can find.

I like the slide hammer attached to vise grips shown above.

I don't have a domino machine, how common is this sort of thing?  Or is this just a sign of bad shop moisture/temp control, or not having wood all to the same moisture/temp when doing work on it?

Pretty common. Yes, humidity is the key cause. That also speaks to the tight tolerance of both the machine itself and the tenons manufactured.

I'm mildly surprised that no one (Fastcap springs to mind) has yet come with up with slightly undersized strong plastic dominoes of various sizes to sell...of course, to be successful, they have to be GREEN. [big grin]

I think it is a common thing.  If you don't sand down the dominos, they can get pretty lodged.

I usually just use slip joint pliers or linesman's pliers to yank it out.  Some of them are difficult, and there is a decent chance you'll compress, distort, or take a chunk out of it enough that you just throw it out instead of risking something screwy going on with your piece.

I try to keep around some sanded dominos marked with "T" for test for dry fits.

If you're going to pull the really tight ones out, get a set of pliers with parallel jaws.  They're less likely to tear up the dominoes.  [smile]
