Hultafors Talmeter

I have six or seven Talmeters, new and old, all sizes. They are great! I always have a Talmeter at hand.

Now they have licensed them to a German brand (SOLA) so you might be able to get them from other sources as well. They only do the 3m version I think.

The marking point is superb for length transfer, just pull out, lock the tape (new 2 and 3m ones are self-locking and the 6m can be locked down extra hard with the tab) carry the TM to the sawhorse/bench and mark the workpiece.

I have both 3m and 6m Talmeters.  I prefer the 3m in daily usage, but wish it came with a holster like the 6m version.  I also wish they could be gotten with markings every 32mm.

The marking feature of the Telemeter 6M is hard to beat.  It increases both accuracy and speed, which is very hard to do.
The mouth of the tape has the scribe point.  Hook the tape and pull it to the desired measurement, then push down on the body of the tape and your mark is scribed.  Cut at the mark. Done.  You'll use this feature every time.  It make arcs too but I have yet to use it for that.

The only negative is inadvertently scratching a nice piece if hardwood.  You have to be careful.

Yes, always careful with expensive woods/boards. If it is very sensitive material I transfer the measurement with the scribe point at the end of the board and use the front piece for marking; no scratches. But for the most part I don't drag the scribe point along the board but rather lay it out from the side of the piece, so no problem for me so far.

I have one Talmeter in my plaster kit box and when scribing plasterboard I sometimes use the scribe point directly for small off cuts and mark/cut in one go. I still have to cut the back side though.

Amazon has the 3M and 6M Talmeters with free shipping.

I bought my 3M unit through them. Took about a week to get to Atlanta, Ga.

I just got my 6m tape today. It took only one week instead of the six they indicated. There must be a supply in the US.

You aren't stuck with metric.  The QuickDraw is a 25' imperial with a little lead holder.
