hvlp painting the right choice?

Hi,

I'm a DIV hobbyist and see a lot of painting in the near future. So i'm wondering if buying a HVLP system is a good idea..
I want to paint mainly water based wood paints and wall latex (nice  to have).
Thinks I need to paint are: stairs, door and window trims and maybe a kitchen.
I'm thinking of a Fuji mini-mite 5 with T75  with pressure pot. I think that is the most versatile solution. But that is a real lot of money. I can't  spend on something else.

So I like to hear from people if this is a sensible think to do?
- Is the T75 with pressure pot the better choice? Or T70 with 3M PPS a better solution?
- Is the over spray so low that is is possible to spray stairs in doors?
- I don't have room for a dedicate spray room. so outside or on the spot is the only alternative. Is that possible?

Hope you guys can give me some inside.

If you’re going with a pot, the T-70. The 75 is a top feed, this can be a hassle with a pot.

Wait on the PPS until 3M releases the second generation HO cups.

For the kitchen, buy a small airless or rent one.

There is overspray, site prep is a must.

With proper planning onsite or outside will work.

Probably what we all have.

My concern would be starting now with the first gen system and 3M phasing out the liners in the next year or so. As you you know the cups get expensive. I have 4 of both size cups. Replacing them if the liners get phased out will be slightly costly, but I have enough years in the cups that the cost over time is not bad.

Having just bought the Figi Gxpc, I thought I would buy into the 3M PPS 2.0, so I bought the adapter only to discover that the HO cups are not yet available!  I kept the adapter but bought the original and cups also. PITA

If I'm only doing water based product is it safe to spray near furnace/water heater using a Fuji HVLP?

My main uses are to spray my deck spindles and cabinetry with some furniture here and there.

And T75G vs the GXPC if using the 3M system? Seems like the 3M negates the need for the GXPC gun (variable angles for spraying)

With the GXPC you can tilt the cup as well (relative to the gun itself). In theory this gives you more options for angles and in tight quarters, I'm not sure it matters in practice and typical use.

Check the manufactures data for flammability.

The 75 will work just fine.

First off, I'm far from an expert when it comes to spraying, and the guys who have replied have a well earned reputation here on the FOG for being very good at what they do.

I am an amateur hobbiest.  I started spraying last summer and am going through a very interesting journey both with equipment and paints/finishes.  I started out with a compressor powered, gravity fed spray gun.  It was very inexpensive.  DeVilbiss.  It did well but the compressor part was a PITA.  (needless to say the compressor was the biggest part of the problem). 

I didn't have the budget to buy a fuji system (as much as I would have liked to at least).  I instead purchased this 4 Stage System from a company called turbine products.  I also purchased additional needle and air cap sets to spray a variety of things.

It is miles better than spraying with a compressor system.  It probably isn't as good as a Fuji setup.  I wouldn't know.  It also costs half that amount which can be used on other things.  And I've been pleased with the results thus far.
