I couldn't wait any more

I can't believe I've done it but just ordered a Makita 18v 5ah impact driver and drill driver combo kit

I've quite a large decking job to do soon and I think it will be easier putting all those screws  in with the impact

Also (Which is the sad bit) I will be working out in the muddy garden and don't want to abuse any of my Festool drills

I actually have 5 Festool drills which I'm sure are well up for the task

It will also give me a drill I can lend to the kids might save me doing a job or two as I've never been keen to lend out my festools

Oh, get over it!  [smile]
Does Festool make an impact anymore? [smile] [size=18pt]No
.  [eek]

My last tool purchase, as a Skin, was the last brushed Makita Impact model down here. It is great. Just purchased a 4amp batt for it today.

Enjoy

*omg*

But i understand you... although i haven´t got 5 festool drills, but for the dirt work outside i´ve also have my makita DHR264ZJ.

Makita impacts and drills are BEASTS. They simply make great motors in a well balanced compact package, with amazing torque. Great for jobs that require power and force all day long.

Festool products are more like surgeons, and have their own niche. I have many Festools, but no drills yet. Been strongly considering the CXS (and hoping for a brushless model soon), but made the mistake of touching the new sub compact 2ah Makita drill at a store this week. For $220 you get the drill, impact, charger, and 3 batteries (while on special).  Makes me think twice about paying double for a drill and fancy chuck.

Hah ... the non Festool lending tools ... I've got a few of those [big grin]

Ha! Marrying beneath yer station, are ye' ,lad? Just hope ye got hearing protection as well, 'caus
ye'll need it: the new missus has a loud voice. Good luck for ye!

You're going to look like Popeye after dealing with the 5.0Ah batteries.

I'm a big fan of Makita cordless tools.  The cordless oscillating multi tool has saved me from headaches many times.  Hard to justify spending more money when these serve me quite well.

I don't know you anymore.... You are dead to me.... [wink]  [poke] [poke]
You'll be fine... As duly noted by others, if Festool doesn't want to offer or get into the cordless Impact market, you have to look elsewhere. I have a simple 18 volt Makita Impact that does all I ask of it, and a smaller 12 volt unit from Makita to fit the tight spaces or light torque levels as needed .
I don't know me anymore... I am dead to me.... [cool]

I know

But to be honest the price was ridiculous

Hope it's not a slippery slope. They do so many battery tools I can see a use for .And body only they are peanuts

Watch this space

Just an update I got this today

I really don't like it .very plasticky very heavy very noisy not very ergonomic

I think I will stick to my Festool drills

The idea was there because there are so many options

But no not for me

The problem is use it for the deck then sell or just sell it now brand new

Can you go anywhere and try the tools with the 3.0Ah battery?  I find those are the better balance with the drill and  impact.

Ergonomics are a personal opinion.  While Makita works for me, Milwaukee does not.  Bosch is next on my list if I need something cordless.

. Give them a try- Could be worse... I dislike Hitachi's outer skins on their cordless tools... [smile]

I have a large collection of Milwaukee's 12 and 18V tool systems.  I recently bought the new hydralic impact driver...my drills make more noise than this little beast.  Most of my work is with metals...aluminum and steel entrances, automatic doors, and commercial locksmithing so I drive ALOT of self tapers and remove ALOT of old fasteners.  In the past I would have to drill out most hinge screws.  No matter old the screws are, now I seldom drill out more than one or two.

i exclusevly use makita cordless and most of my equipment is makita.  stick a bosch green sander and a couple of evoulution saws in the mix, the R210sms and the r185ccsl to be precise, and you have the right idea.  oh, i have an ixo as well.

I learned just today. A skilled builder who do repair and underwater jobs on docks (boat docks) only rely on Makita drills for underwater use - in saltwater! [scared] He uses them for about 6 months, and then throws them in the bin, that’s when they stop working  [blink] He apparently have tried other brands, but Makita was the only ones that did the job.
