It feels like it has been forever since I have made any sawdust what so ever.  I got tired of stuff rolling around in the back and always being in the way in the misses 4runner.  So I built a box, still need to finish the drawer on Sunday.  I think it will work out very well.

Not sure if I want to carpet it or use a rubber for the top.  I might do boiled linseed for the sides and the drawer front.  Have to see if I can find a thin rubber mat.

Great idea!  You might want to consider giving it a couple of coats of polyurethane, then covering it with indoor/outdoor carpet to match the 4Runner's interior.  The polyurethane will protect the box in case of spills.  If "Madame" is into yoga, use one of her old yoga mats to pad the box before you carpet it, too.

Once you've decided on how you're going to finish it, think about adding some D-rings on top and securing the box to the existing truck D-rings. You might want to consider crisis crossing some heavy rubber bungee cord on the section behind the lid/drawer area. I installed some bungee using the D-rings in the back of our Subaru Forester and it's been handy to prevent stuff sliding around.
