I got a router - stuck collet

So, I got a OF1010 as a gift and I think I turned the collet the wrong way trying to swap to the 1/4" shank.  Tried to thread the collet lock nut back on the get it to re-seat but no joy.  Any suggestions to get the collet insert out of the router?

Its not the  first time this has been done, if you have the collet nut off you can carefully twist out the collet with a pair of grips take your time and try not to damage the collet and more importantly the collet thread. 

do not damage the part the collet is stuck in as its the armature and will be v, expensive to replace.

If you are in any way nervous about fixing this yourself, send it straight in to service - the Festool techs will sort it out for you fairly.

Thanks for the replies....I think at this point I'll likely send it in and just borrow a buddy's router to finish my project.  I think a handy sticker indicating which way to turn the nut would be a good crutch for me for now.

If you can find something to reach through the hole in the collet and hook behind it you can pull the collet out. Perhaps a tight bend in a coat hanger, then clip the tip off small enough to fit through the hole and hook behind the collet. If you can find some kind of weight to put on the hanger, make another bend after sliding it on and you have a crude slide-puller that might induce a little shock as you slide it away from the collet. A straight pull away from the router will not cause any damage to the bearings and induce pull in exactly the most efficient direction.

Thanks, that's helpful.  The thread doesn't indicate how you solved the issue (the same one I have).  Did you use a drift in the spindle locking hole?

its a while ago now sorry I cant quite remember exactly but I think I put a small screwdriver into the shaft which prized it open enough for it to pop out

So, with the suggestions above, I got the collet out this evening.  Using a nail set and a pair of needle nose pliers, I simultaneously pushed up on the base of the collet through the arbor locking hole and pulled up on the collet with the pliers. Minimal effort and it popped out.  My arbor looked just like yours where it appeared pinched. 

I'm not sure if I did any damage to the collet so I may go ahead and order a replacement 8mm collet.

Unbelievably it happened to me again yesterday. I stuck a small screwdriver through the hole in the collet and pushed down. The collet came out a little I then tightened the nut back on and then when taking the nut off the collet came off with it.

There's a way of facilitating this either by cooling it with the air from an air compressor or heating it with a hair dryer to cause a differential in metal expansion or contraction, but i can never remember which one is applicable for this......doh!
