I need more guide rails....

Like I need a hole in the head.  I just did the math and I have 36.78 FEET of guide rails.  WOW!

I could easily dump the two 1400's and still have a rail for all seasons (they came with my TS55 and my older TS75, before they included the longer rail with it).  One of the 1400's had a ding in the corner (deceleration trauma) so I cut it down a bit (now measures 1352).  I may cut it down to 800, leaving me with a short (550ish) piece that might come in handy sometimes.

I would!  Well I did!  I cut it down giving me 800 and 600 rail which is really handy for cutting small pieces and getting into tight spaces.    You deffos needs a 600 and 800 rail.  I'm thinking of cutting one to give me 300-400 rail. Which I could store inside my systainer with my protool chain saw sword

i was planing on gett ing one of the short rail soon. they look very handy for shorter work.
il have to do the math , i might do as jmb sugested [eek] and get a 1400 and cut it into a 600 and 800.

I think that settles it. I'll sell the "in tact" 55 and cut the 1352 down to 800 and 550ish.  

I wish the LR32 holes were available in a 3000.  The 2424 is ok for pins, but worthless for cutting (full length sheet goods...)

+1  Yeah, I have both, but would have really appreciated having just the 3000 with LR32 holes as you suggest.  Hear that, Festool?  [smile]

I use the 2700 for cutting along the length of 8 foot sheets and my 1400 for cutting across the sheet. I made up a pair of folding trestles especially for cutting sheets with the TS 55 and guide rails. In the attached picture you can see that the tops of the trestles have removable sacrificial inserts and they are all you need when cutting along the length of a sheet. The two (rough looking) sacrificial timbers between the trestles in the picture are used when cutting across the width of a sheet. The trestles are stronger than they appear, fold up quickly and are easy to take from job to job.

I can see how handy some short lengths of guide rail would be.

Risking the consequences of resurrecting a couple month old thread, I will.

This is mild gripe about the 1400 guide rail length.

I have been using two FS1400 guide rails for the past three years or more, and I was always a bit disappointed with the length.  Cross-cutting sheet goods, the guide rail should be at least 1525mm (60" = 48" +2x6") so that most of the TS55 saw base sits on the guide into and out of the cut.  I don't want to have to (buy and) connect two FS800s together, although that is the only option to best accommodate 48" (or 49" melamine/mdf) sheet goods.

As of tonight, I am more convinced that Festool should come out with a new length for crosscutting .  I just received my parallel guide set today, and wouldn't it be nice to have the full length of the parallel guide clamp sit on the guide rail: it would if the rail were 1525+mm.  The design seems sturdy enough; however, I'd like it more so if it were completely on the guide.

Long and short of it: Festool should come out with an FS1600, as a nice round number.  (The 1900 offered  is just too long.)  I'd add that to my collection.

I use the 1900 for cross cutting 48" + sheet goods. Because, like you, I find the 1400  a bit short.  I agree thtat sometimes the 1900 is a bit in the way but it is a handy length if you need to cut an angle  across a 48" sheet.

Barring Festool making a 1600, you could get a 1900 and cut it  to 1600.  Some members have posted that for various reasons they have a real short (300 ish) rail off cut that gets used for oddball situations. So even the excess  that you cut off could be good to have around.

I don't think this is as good of an idea as some of you guys.  Look at it this way, increase the price (by a lot) for everyone so a few people to take advantage of few more LR32 rail sizes.

I would think the price would be cheaper then the LR32 Guide rails are now, but more expensive then a non-LR32. Because of only needing to produce and stock one type of each rail.
