OK- so maybe the pun was intended......lol

With several built-in projects looming and the basement remodel now done after 8 months of nights and weekends, I decided to treat myself to a TS-55, MFT-3, ETS-125, and CT-MIDI and an extra rail.

Why does my wallet feel so much lighter???    ;D

Probably because your wallet can see into the future!  [thumbs up]

Bob,

You are on a Festool plateau.  The air and everything is is thinner.  The world is smarter.  Work is easier.  Time moves differently.

In all seriousness,  work your tools and enjoy.  If we can help, we're here!

I think that's the case.  I'm also thinking that these "dust extractors" are actually "funds extractors".....lol

When I first was considering any Festools I really had a problem with a "vac" that expensive -- I have a small garage workshop and I hated using any power tool inside with the doors closed, it was terrible.  I bought a CT33 and several Festools and I found that the CT's are the heart of the Festool systems -- I enjoy doing any operation inside with doors closed with very little clean up afterward.
Now, I'm so hooked I'll probably get the CT36 with a package deal of either a 2200 router or the ETS3 sander as my next purchase.

Yep people that do not start with the vacs and sanders really are missing the boat. Once someone sees that you can sand next to the kitchen  table with no dust  then they start to see the benefits of tools made specifically to catch the dust better.

For me, that is really what the Festools are about, collecting the dust which makes woodworking a joy rather than a chore.

Whooo!  That is quite a treat!!  Congrats.  Judging by the items you hopefully got two combo deals there.  So you're not only smart, you're a good businessman.    [thumbs up]

Welcome to the slippery green slope.  Don't bother trying to hide your wallet.. it won't work.  You'll get more soon.  I prediiiiict...  A C12 drill is up next.  Remember, they're on discount now.    You will absolutely need all the features of that drill for built in projects.  [smile]

Yeah, after that purchase, your wallet probably won't work for awhile.  [big grin]

The UP side is that your wallet will be so thin you'll hardly notice you're sitting on it.  [big grin]

It's actually funny that you mention the ability to sand in finished spaces.

When we finished the basement renovation, we moved the "office furniture" out of the space that was originally my office, but had since gotten taken over by the wife and kids' junk.  I now have a 10x12 space with double french doors and hardwood floors, that was destined to become my "office", so I started layout various options for bookcases/desks, built-in worktops, etc.  The thing is, I really don't need an "office"- I need about a 4' wide bookcase, and someplace to spend 30 minutes a day checking email and various forums.

When I brought all this stuff home today, I started opening boxes and assembling the MFT in the "office space" rather than the garage, as it was still around 90 degrees outside, and I wanted to relax.  My 9 year-old daughter came in and said "You're setting up your shop in your office instead of the garage?  Good idea."  That got me thinking- why build an "office" that I won't use, and have all of my tools/equipment in the garage, when I can build a workcenter/hobby area instead, and do some of the work inside in the air conditioning?  Of course, I'd never try this without great dust extraction, and large sheets will still need to be broke down outside or in the garage (or will they?  With the double doors open, the sheets wil barely stick into the foyer....lol), but for small projects, assembly, etc., it's a great solution.

Gotta love the things that come out of kids' mouths sometimes.....

The other good thing is that you'll be spending your time working in close proximity to your kids, you may even get them interested in woodworking with you.  [smile]

Yup- my daughter has already expressed interest in a birdhouse project- it'll be the most dust-free birdhouse ever built, and the joints will be crisp and clean, with no splintering.....lol

The first time I saw Festool was when a neighbour in 2004 got a new kitchen block. The crew wheeled in a stack of systainers,  folded table and a vac. When they left, the neighbour was very surprised the house was not covered with sawdust. And he was very happy with the results.
I bought a TS55 with a CMS and extra fence in 2006. No vac and I was working in sawdust, ankle deep. 6 Months later I bought an OF 1010 and CMS insert. Still no vac and still ankle deep in chips. Again 6 months later I bought a Domino, this time with a vac. Only then I found out how stupid I was for not buying a vac earlier.
When I started in 2009 to buy Festools in the USA, my first batch was a TS55 AND a vac. I had learned my lesson. Now I think the system and the vacs are the most important aspects of the Festool approach.

Over the years I just was never that enthused about woodworking for fun -- I built my own house and did other remodeling projects but those were because I needed to do them.  I just didn't like the mess & getting covered with sawdust.  Then I discovered Festools and what a difference -- FUN!  I mostly enjoy working with handtools but I also enjoy using the Festools.
I would really like to get into wood turning but as far as I can see there isn't much way around the big mess even with a good dust collector.  If only Festool would come out with a wood lathe...
[big grin]

It's like that John Cougar song from my youth "Hurt's so good, come on baby make it hurt so good"  The pain will continue till you are quite broke, but happy!  You must feed the green machine!

Sounds like you earned those new toys!

Welcome to the slope!
