Over at www.contractortalk.com they have a neat feature called the "Thanks" button you click it on a post and it lets the poster know that you found his post particularly worth while.  when you click it it adds your name to the bottom of the post in a box called "The Following 14(or however many) Users Say Thank You to Tim Garrison PE For This Useful Post:"  now if you are not Tim Garrison PE  you would have to come up with your own post ( http://www.contractortalk.com/f11/over-engineer-kills-project-73267/ ).  Anyway there are some posts here that are worthy of the same treatment .

So Shane can you work your magic [not worthy] [not worthy] [not worthy]?

This seems related to the "Karma" function that Matthew, the previous forum Administrator, considered activating.

For example, see the threads at...
http://festoolownersgroup.com/forum-features-functions/activate-karma/?all
http://festoolownersgroup.com/forum-features-functions/peer-rating/

It wasn't very popular, and after a short trial, the Karma function was disabled again.

Maybe a "Thanks" button like you are suggesting would be more popular.

I think, for the moment, just saying thank in a reply or PM is going to have to do.  Contractor Talk runs on a different forum software than the FOG (vBulletin).  vB has a much larger user community and thus a lot more modifications available to the software.

There are a couple available for our forum software that are similar but the issue is that they allow members to vote in favor of or against a post.  I don't like that idea so much.  I would prefer only the ability to vote in favor of a post.  A member who has votes placed against them may get offended and leave which I don't want to see.

I will continue to keep an eye out for something that will satisfy the desire to mark posts as helpful.

Thanks.

I much prefer what we have now.  That is, to thank someone by adding a post to a thread.  Among other things, you can be much more specific about exactly what the thanks is for.

[thanks]

actually this came to mind because i was browsing some older threads and there were some posts in them that I found helpful..............they didnt need a response  but the information was useful, or the incite was keen.  I actually found 15-20.  also as time would pass you could gather quantitatively the "Best of FOG" .
