I wish Festool made their tool box with a handle that collapsed.

I have one of these:

I wish the handle could slide down into the systainer so it was flush or lower with the top, then when it was stacked I wouldn't have to have it at the top and when it was in a sysport I wouldn't have to leave loads of space above it.

I know someone has made an extension for the systainer but a sliding handle would be better.

I agree 100%!!!  I find these boxes incredibly useful, but they are always on top of my stack..(Meaning they are the end of my stacking) because i can't put a regular ol' T' LOC on top of it!!

It would probably raise the price I suppose...

ya it was made to sit on top of stacks for those easy access tools you frequent.

If the handle just slid down then you could stack it anywhere. Of course if you wanted it at the top then you could still do that. I find it frustrating because I'm sure it could be easily achieved.

With regard to placing it in the middle of a stack, it would need an extra lip across the back to accept the lugs on the Sys above it; and a T-Loc on the front of course, so it would be an altogether more complex item - and possibly still not rigid enough to go under a heavy stack.

You could place a Sys-SB above to get a stack with a closed top, but you would be still be very restricted as to where in the stack it could go.

I think one real utility of the open box is that it can hold all the loose stuff that doesn’t have to fit under a closing lid (or another Sys above it).

It is useful that you can have items sticking out but overall I still wish it integrated better with the rest of the systainers. I like the integration of the Festool system and just think this could be better.

Oh, I agree.
When I first saw the open toolbox and the SB, I had somehow assumed the handles did retract. I hadn't really thought about the problems of making those items fully stackable until this thread was raised.

Another plus for a retractable handle that I see would be if you have the tray full of loose parts, tools, what have you they can easily spill.

But if the handle retracted and you could place the tray in the middle of the stack then the open top of the tray would be covered and nothing could spill out.

No offense, but get a Sys 1 or 2 with lid and collapsible handle. All problems solved. You can get dividers if need be or get the drawer style.

I have the cantilevered box which is great for some stuff but I treat it as a tool box, last one on, first one off so the non collapsible handle has never bothered me.

Easy. Cut the handle off flush with the top of the systainer and reattach it with a couple of hinges. You might have to put a little latch on the opposite side of the hinge to keep the systainer level.

And also normally houses a few items I know I will need first. With no need to open anything

I put the Cantilevered Toolbox under it. I'm grateful that the two toolboxes slide together with regards to the handle fitting into each other. I think the toolbox is just what it is, simple, rugged , lightweight and free of frills or add-ons.
