Improving Guide Rail to Rip Thin Stock

Being spoiled in this regard by my earlier Dewalt track saw I was looking for a way to improve friction between thin stock and Festool guide rail. The factory rail has friction tapes positioned on a side opposite to the splinter guard and an obvious solution would have been to add the third friction tape next to the splinter guard strip. The caveat here (learned by trial and error) is the fact that adding the third friction strip lifts the splinter guard just enough to cause albeit minimal but noticeable splintering of the keeper part of the material. So using Festool friction tape for this purpose is out of the question. Luckily for me I still had spare Dewalt friction tape on hand and it is a bit thinner then Festool friction tape which allowes to keep the splinter guard pressed to the material while on another hand adding friction to secure stock when cutting. Now all my guide rails have the third friction tape strips (manufactured by Dewalt and available on Amazon). Works like a charm!

That's really neat.

I just built a jig for ripping thin stock, but a little extra grip is probably a good idea when ripping 2" thick white oak.

Thanks for sharing.

That is a great idea.

I have found the Festool Rapid Clamps also work well in this situation.
