I'm a sucker.  I have a fairly new Hitachi with a very nice Freud blade that really doesn't need to be replaced (anybody want a slightly used Hitachi?).

I'm loving the Festool "system", and the Hitachi is a great saw, short of the dust collection.  It's OK, but not what I saw (pun?) from the demo I did at a local dealer of the Kapex.

Bob Marino insures me that he tests the spring plate of every saw he sells before it goes out, so I'm fairly confident that it will be ok, and I am 100% confident that if its not, it will be rectified.

Yes, this is a buttload of money for a SMCS, but I don't own a $2k cabinet saw, so I'm (almost) ok with the price tag.

Wish me luck.

Hi Gary, good luck with the new saw! Be sure to post some pics once you've got 'er all settled-in :)

She'll be setup on the Port-A-Mate, so it will be a combination review.

I suspect I'll need to rig a longer "fence" of some sort, as neither tool has much of one.  Having said that,  I don't think that will be particularly challenging, even for one as feeble as myself. :D

garry,

good luck,  just remember that the turntable, can bind up later down the road, from 10 turns to 100.  hopefully yours will be fine.  but I have had them also checked out and fine then they bind up.

but festool will back it up 100 %  so enjoy your new toy.

The Kapex made it, but I've abandonned the Port-A-Mate.  Parts of it were pretty flimsy, so I'll wait and get something a little better.

Now I just have to figure out how to use the saw. ;D

I just got my Kapex from Uncle Bob yesterday, and I used it for some minor tasks today.  I did not notice until I was using my 4" machinist square to check the blade that the insert was bulging up.  The things I was doing today weren't critical, but I will address the situation shortly.

My Kapex isn't "scraping" like some, but my lasers were off a little out of the box.  I have the right side adjusted now, but I have a little more work to do on the left.

glad it is not scraping , yet and hope it doesn't at all.  I have never had a plate buldge up on a miter saw.  it is a shame that yours is and hopefully you can fix it.  again why on a 1300 top of the line festool product, does that plate have to do this? and has done it on many of the saws.  that is what I do not understand.

but I am sure your saw is cutting greatly.  did you check the saw for skewing?

I use the Ryobi (A18MS01) stand for my Kapex on site work and I love it! It weighs around 10 pounds, supports up to 400 pounds, folds up to a small footprint, assembles with no tools and it is totally adjustable. Plus, it only cost $99.00. I have used 4 different saws on it with great results. Not for 12" SCMS.

I also use the Ryobi stand.  I bought it a few weeks ago, thinking I'd give it a try and return it if it was not good enough.  Right away, I was very impressed by how well it is made (was not expecting anything this good for $100).  At this point, I've used it for a couple of outside projects, and then set it up in my shop.

I hadn't thought of hooking a Kapex onto this table, but then again, I don't own a Kapex!  Believe it or not, I'm actually still using a Ryoby 12" miter saw (non-sliding)!!

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Luckily, I'm a hobby woodworker, and so I do not show up at jobsites!  Otherwise, I would definitely have to buy a different saw.
But go ahead -- feel free to rib me about it if you want!!
Stay in touch,
Matthew
