I just joined this FOG (I also take part in the Felder Owner's Group) and have purchased a Festool dust collection unit and a sander. I attended a Festool Demo Day on Tuesday and am now considering the purchase of the LR32 system, a couple of tracks, a Domino, a 1400 router and some bits and pieces to go with them. I would like to build my own version of the MFT as I don't find one MFT large enough, and, if I take Festool's suggestion and buy two of them to join together, I have a large table but it is not dimensioned the way I want it. I would be interested to know if there are cross section views of the two rail systems available, and I would be interested in any thoughts the group might have on which rail system to adapt to my custom-sized table. I would imaging that the old rails, if still available, might be a problem with current clamps, stops, etc. I have read, and am rereading Jerry Work's paper on "Getting the Most Out of the MFT Multifunction Table" and it appears to have been written before the new tables were introduced. I'll be talking to Jerry tomorrow and will ask for clarification. I am planning to make my table top from the "double strength" version of MDF, and I have a local woodworking shop that can do a precision job of drilling the holes using a CNC router. I have a Felder KF700 (combo saw/shaper with sliding table) so I don't think I will be using the plunge saws, but I will use the tracks for the LR32, the router, and I will use the table for assembly and glue-up. Any thoughts, advice, guidance that you folks would like to share would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks in advance.
