Posting photos to the web, or in our case to a thread on the FOG is probably the one thing that might prevent someone from sharing good ideas.  I know in past it has stopped me cold.  I figured out OK how to post a picture as an attachment....but how do these guys post their photos directly in a post as they catalogue a project build...or outline a handy tutorial?  It looks so professional!  There are handy tutorials on the FOG for doing that, but how do you get the photos the correct size?  And do I have to take all afternoon to edit them one by one once I figure that out?  Or is there a way to do them all at once??

I took the advice of one of these tutorials and downloaded a program called IrFanview.  The program works great and I quickly figured out how to "batch" resize and rename a whole group of photos at the same time.  I'd like to share that here and hope it might help others stuck trying to figure out how to do that.  So here goes...

By the way...the program is a free downloadhttp://www.irfanview.com/  The RIOT plugin is here for download as well.

Open up IrFanview, and in the File menu, select "Batch conversion / rename.

IrfanView is one of the best programs for photos I've ever come across.    I've been using it for over 6 years now.

Thanks Brice.  I am only happy to try to "add" to the knowledge here and help others if I can.  It is small payback for all I have learned here from you and others who have taken their time to share and I thank you for that.

Thanks Matthew!  That is a good tip.  I wondered if checking the "Set file size" and then entering in...say 100 does some of that for you as the file size will be set very close to 100kb.  Actually...I do now wonder exactly what setting the size DOES do to the picture to keep it at 100kb??

Thanks, Barry.  Great job in explaining how to convert a batch of photos!!  Even I can understand it!

Now I have another question.  How do you take those screen shots and add the arrows and labels to help a reader understand what you are communicating.  As I have said many times before, my PC skills are next to zero.  I would like to be able to add those lead arrows and caption boxes to aid understanding of what is shown in photos that I post.  You, Matthew, Dan Clark and Brice B. have helped me to increase them greatly.  Without their tutorials, I would still not be able to post a photo.  Thanks, Gents, to all of you!!
