Is Festool a System or What?

I had a customer ask me a question today and it gave me an idea...

The question was, "What is the height of the Kapex UG stand when folded for transport?".

The answer is, 900mm to the highest point, which happens to be the top of the "handle". It's a cylinder (pipe).

That magic number, 900mm, also happens to be the height of the MFT/3 tabletop, the CMS tabletop, and the Kapex table height when set up.

What this all means is that a folded UG can be used as an infeed/outfeed of sorts for an MFT/3 or CMS.

Pretty cool!

I wanted to add an extra row 20mm holes to my MFT closer to the edge of the MFT a year ago or so.  Turns out, you can get exact spacing as they are on the MFT using the LR32 sled with a 20mm bit to drill the holes using every 4th hole in the guide rail.  I kinda thought that may be the case, as it is a system, and while not perfect all around, there are a lot of one-offs like that in using the Festool system that can make our lives easier even more-so than we originally think.

yes but if i have the kapex and ug set i woulnt  have it folded up. i would use it set up ,it is the same height when set up.
if i had it in the van or not set up  i would only use the ug legs on the mft3

The only drawback to using the UG extensions as MFT/3 extensions is the "fence" lip can get in the way.

Tom,

I realized a few months back that the UG extensions made a perfect combination with the MFT for joining, gluing and clamping door casing.

Certainly far better than trying to lay out a large, awkward assembly on spare floor space.

And I'll give that cart idea a try the next time I need some quick and dirty support for sheet goods.
