There is a post over on another forum (UK Workshop) stating that Festool have been taken over by another (inferior  [eek]) tool, company. Any truth in this ?

I checked on the Stanley Black and Decker investor relations site and no press release as of yet

Is this what you were talking about tdfiver? Check the third and fourth post.

Man if that's true...

I don't work for Festool, but sounds absurd to me. Anyone can write anything on the net.

I am sure its not true, but usually the employees are the last to find out stuff like that. They just come in one and day and crap a new owner.

I was working for a guy that was the Vice president of a private fortune 100 company, I can't remember the name for the life of me. He was at the top, came in one day and  a guy was sitting in his office, his replacement. The company was bought out the day before and no one new about it.

The thing about private companies is that things can happen very quietly and quickly as there is no board to have to vote, etc. The current owners do not want to upset employees and lose people on rumors of being sold.

I doubt a person on some forum somewhere would know anything about Festool being sold.

Allow me to quickly quell this rumor.  Simply untrue.

Thanks for quelling the rumor Shane. It confused me a bit as to how Black and Decker would have the funds to buy and maintain something like Festool. I don't know I could be wrong seeing as B&D is a rather large company. When I think of the chuck on my Black and Decker drill and think of that being applied to Festool I cringe.

Chris:

Stanley owns B&D, Delta, DeWalt, Bostich, Proto, Price Pfister, Facom... To name only a few.

I'm just a hobby woodworker. I get funds to buy all the black and green stuff as a sound engineer.

Half a year ago something like this rumor actually happened in the sound gear business. Midas, the rolls royce of live audio mixing consoles, was bought by Behringer. Behringer is a German company that manufactures (in China) nothing but copies of small to medium sound equipment and sells it dirt cheap. This head in two directions. Everybody in the business is waiting what effect this is going to have on the new products of both Behringer and Midas.

This to illustrate this rumor isn't that far fetched. On that level only numbers play a role, not the goods manufactered. Why compete if you can just buy them, and get a new share of the market.

regards,

Philippe

Ah, so Stanley owns just about half the power tool industry? Right so clearly they have the money. Thanks for bringing me into the light Tom.

Just for the record Black and Decker could easily afford to purchase Festool.

Before downturn for 2008, revenue alone was $6,086,000,000.00

Even after losing a ton of business during the downturn and in this poor economy it seems they still make from 55 million to 33 million per quarter in profit(in 2009 3rd and 4th quarters).

When the housing gets back in gear they will probably go up another 35% per quarter.

Its really the opposite isn't it. The low end(B&D) buying the high end(Festool) as opposed to high end(Mercedes) buying the low end(Chrysler).

True, it's just the "marriage" that seems weird for either of them.  It would be like the Queen marrying Sadam Hussein. [unsure]  Just wants to make you ralph thinking about it.  :o
