Use 1 layer (2 dominoes) and see if that is strong enough.

How do I "see if that is strong enough" without building the system and seeing if it breaks apart?

Can anyone give examples of furniture built for support adults where the joints used just 2 10x50mm dominos?

One either knows something like a glues shear strength, or a woods tensile strength and works it out.
Or some intuition based upon past experience,
Or
The make some thing representative of a small piece and bang on it with a hammer, or static load it to the point of failure.

0 dominos is too few, and all dominos with no wood left for a mortice is too many.
You magic number will likely be between 1 and 6

Very true. This is my first project with the domino AND my first furniture project. I did a test today using four and it will work great.

I'm struggling with line up the dominos since the two pieces of stock are different thickness. I'm sure I'll come up with something . Are there any tips and tricks blogs or videos for using the domino tool?

Are you flipping the wood over to do the second row? Try working from only one side and adjust the fence, or do the bottom row first and then use a spacer to elevate the tool for the top row

This is what I started doing and results have been good, i just haven't had the time to get very far. :(

It's a bed, so you could always...you know...go the Paul Sellers route. Just a thought.
