Is this Festool hex wrench only available in Europe?

In the latest Festool SysNotes email there is a plug for the rail guides, showing a Festool hex wrench securing the connector screws (attached).  I can't find that wrench in the 2008-09 catalog.  If it is there, could someone please let me know the page number.  ???

I assume it isn't available yet in the US.  Not sure why.  It would come in very handy! ;)

Apparently they stopped manufacturing it a while ago, so the reps said.

Correct, it was called a "toolie tool" and is no longer available from Festool.

But I will trade you my Festool Toolie for some other tool -such as a Domino.  ;D

I got one the other day from a local dealer in Naples Florida.  He had a few of them left at I think $14 each.  The contact info is Preshers is (239) 774-2525.  They are nice folks there.

Thanks,

William

There has been some discussion in FOG previously about the "Toolie tool" (Part Number 490833), and a search for "toolie" will bring up quite a lot of threads.

Just Tools of Australia have the following photo of the Toolie on their website:

Like the Festool tape measure, the Toolie appears to be made by another company for Festool, and if you can't find the Festool-branded version, you can order a similar product from the parent manufacturer's line-up. In this case, it seems to be made by Wiha, the same German company that appears to make the Festool Centrotec driver (Order No 495228).

Wiha produce a range of these folding wrench key sets in plain and ball-end hex (metric and imperial), Torx, tamper-proof Torx, Pozi and slotted forms. Wiha call it the PocketStar, and the full PocketStar range can be found in their catalogue or on their US website.

Here is one model from the Wiha PocketStar range:

Of particular note are the MagicRing ends to some of the Wiha key sets, which grip the socket-head screw; and the Mini PocketStar, which contains small keys in sizes like PH00, T4, and 2mm hex.

Another good option would be almost any "multitool" available from bicycle shops.  Park Tools are very high quality, but good options also exist from Pedro's, Topeak, and many others.  These could also potentially include the torx, flat, and phillips drivers.

Bob, thanks for giving me the official name.  When I searched the FOG for "Toolie" I can see it is a popular item.  Seems a shame to discontinue such a useful tool.  I'll have to pick up a few before they are all gone.  :o

William, I appreciate the lead.  Good to know some are still available.  I gave them a call and unfortunately I live on the other coast, and they don't ship mail order.  But I'll find one soon.  ;)

Forrest, I appreciate the background on the Toolie.  It makes sense that Wiha made it for Festool, since their quality is high.  If I strike-out on the Toolie I'll investigate some of the alternatives you have so graciously presented.  :D

Garry, good idea.  I may have to pay a visit to my local bike shop.  ;)

I have one of these toolies and after using, I can see why they were discontinued.  Very awkward to use.  Looks cool on the bench though.  Don't bother.

I must disagree with you.  I do not find my Toolie awkward to use and I find it very convenient, particularly when I am working off-site.  Do bother.

I should have chimed in earlier but we have a few left for sale at Woodcrafters in Portland Oregon.  Give us a call at 1-800-777-3709 and we can send you one.  -- Thanks

I agree with Mr. Pellow, I love the Toolie.  I have one of them in each of my Sortainers, and use them all of the time.

Reviving an old thread...

Can someone please list the hex sizes that are on the Toolie, ergo the hex sizes needed for Festools, in general?

I am thinking these are a viable substitute, but can't find a consolidated list of sizes, nor any specs online about the Toolie.

Shoot. I saw that list with Toolie's specs just a couple of days ago. Can't find the link anymore though. Sorry.

I can't see what all the fuzz is about though. Personally, I detest these multi tools. It is always awkward to hold them while turning. I prefer to use a real wrench or driver.
