Anyone that has a Kapex 120 that has the measure in mm from base-feet to the cutting area? Building a mitre station and havent recieved the Kapex yet.

I would caution anyone building something to take the Kapex to check the measurement G. Mine is not 110 mm (I think it is 112 mm).

In order to make life easier the allowance in a custom mitre station should be slightly more so that you then raise the Kapex to get it spot on. Doing things the other way may not be as easy.

If you already have the machine then you can accurately measure it and there is no need to mess around.

I believe the 110mm measurement Peter doesn't taken into account the little rubber feet that drop in to the holes in the KAPEX MFT, thereby lowering the overall height.

Yes, I am sure that is it.

I still think that it is wise to check as the thickness of those rubber feet are probably not a specification controlled measurement. Or we could all drill little rebates for the rubber feet which might be a good idea.

Cheers.

Personally, in a permanent station, I'd sit the Kapex on a wooden bed that was then height adjustable to the main bench to dial in an exact position.

I will chime in and be the third to agree with being able to adjust the Kapex to the adjacent tables. The only difference I would make is to be able to adjust both sides of the Kapex separately as there might be a difference in each side by a 1 or 1/2 a mm.

I built a stand once used it for a few months and than got sick of dealing with it and shelled the cash out for the UG cart. The expense was so worth it. I cannot describe the time it saves and how nice it is. It was possibly he most expensive accessory I bought for my Festools but the most useful out of all of them.

Is there a diagram/spec which references layout with the centers of the rubber feet and the two holes behind the fence that are used to bolt the kapex down to the top?

I don't have a diagram, but I'm sure it won't surprise you to hear that they're on a 96mm grid!

The four feet are on 576mm x 384mm centres, and the bolts drop through holes 96mm forward of the rear feet (i.e. at 288mm from the front feet). Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the info.  I actually cheated on measuring them - I put the Kapex on the 1/2" plywood piece I wanted to drill the holes in and then slipped some carbon paper (anyone remember that stuff?) between the feet and the plywood and wiggled it around a little, then drilled where the mark was.

At 65, I certainly remember carbon paper, slide rules, 8 tracks, and lot of other things relegated to the dust bins of history.  I learned in a galaxy far, far, away, to use lipstick for making transfer marks.  Originally it was to place door latches but it works for other situations also.  I have to admit that if you show up on a job site with lipstick in your toolbag that you do get some funny looks and a hint of suspicion in the air.

Thank goodness someone else remembers lipstick for marking!  I am not the last one on earth although I mentioned it here before about something.
