Hi guys I opened a thread yesterday on getting my new kapex 120 delivered but forgot to ask the million dollar question!!!

Do you stick with the really expensive festool blade or do you recommend an after market alternative?

Having never used one before I'm worried that after shelling out a lot of hard earned for the kapex and UG set the universal blade that is standard with it won't be for my needs which are mitreing cornice and pelmit on kitchens that are usually laminate which tends to chip out when I've done this with less expensive mitre saws?

Can anyone advise me on what I might need?

Also love this site people are so helpful

I live in the U.K. And I can't seem to find a link to buy tenryu blades are they only available in the US?

The 60 tooth blade that came with my Kapex is excellent but I've got Forrest chopmaster 80t and Tenryu silencer 72t and Tenryu miter pro 80t and for sure the miter pro is superior for cutting laminated trim parts.

All of the above blades lose the edge fairly quickly so plan to re-sharpen often.

I think tenryu could be high on my list as after being told earlier in the thread I did some digging and found a thread on fog highly praising them,

Also because I'm a sucker for anything hard to get it means I want them even more now lol
Not sure there is any logic to the way I think but unobtainable means I have to really try and get them lol

Paul,

Try sharpsaws uk I just bought a new blade from them for my Kapex. The guy delivered it by hand to me as they are based in High Wycombe and hes often in and out of London collecting blades for sharpening.

They sell stehle blades. This is the one I got, he also sells on ebay.

[member=1584]joiner1970[/member] Have you used stehle blades before if so how does it compare to the Festool 60t and 80t blades. If it's your first time I would be interested in your thoughts as I need to get a 80t blade for the Kapex.
Cheers.

The standard blade is a pretty nice blade - personally I would hold off buying anything until you give it a go and see the results. I have been pleased with the 60T blade for everything I have needed it for.

Find a decent saw shop/sharpener.  Go in, tell them what you're cutting, what saw you're using and ask for a recommendation.  Ask around at various cab shops and ask who they use to service tooling.  There is usually one shop that stands out.  Talk to the guys who actually do the grinding instead of a sales guy.  The guys in back usually have some pretty valuable insights on what is good and what isn't.

For prefin and laminate I stick to standard ATB blades as much as possible. If it's laminated particle board you loose some edge life but you keep a higher cut quality than most of the TCG blades designed for laminate. On a 10" saw I'm looking for an 80t blade with a 20* top grind on the teeth with a 4ATB+R configuration. (4 alternating teeth followed by a flat raker)  If I have problems with chipping I'll switch to a H-ATB grind which is also called Hi-AT or Hi-ATB.  They have a 30* top angle vs the standard 20*.  They cut cleanly but dull quickly which is why I try to stick with the more conservative grind.

Most of the tooling I run is made in North America so I'll skip the manufacturer recommendations.

Yeah I've had one in my ts55 go a year or two. Just as good if not better than the festool blades. The kapex one I just bought is excellent.

Good to know thanks, I'll order one up.

Just so you know there has been a lot of chat on Twitter today about Sharpsaws not sending out new blades and not returning sharpened blades. Ive bought two blades from them and not had any problems so thought they were ok.

Just a little warning as I didnt want to recommend someone then they let you down.

PS Ive no connection other than being a satisfied customer.

Thanks for the heads up I didn't give it a thought mate!!
There is no way I would jeopardise my warranty!
Maybe when 3 years is up.

Used today for first time with 60t on laminated cornice and was the most perfect mitres ever!!! No chip out at all!! I've never been so excited!!!

Sounds like the results I get with the festool 60t when its good and sharp.  After it gets a little too dull for cutting laminate, it still cuts wood very well for a long time.

Thanks for the heads up, was going to order one up for when I'm in the UK in April, if there's delays with posting out this could cause me a headache, I'll do some more research. Cheers.

No worries it might be ok I know one guy got his blades back today so hopefully its all ok. Craig from Sharpsaws rang me as he had my number from a previous order. He asked me if Id tell everyone on Twitter that he'd been very ill and had got behind on everyone's orders. His twitter wasn't allowing him to post, whether this is true or not I wouldnt know. I know things can get on top for anyone so I would give him the benefit of the doubt. As I say the 2 orders ive made were fine and he even delivered by hand to me.

That sounds reasonable, we all know that twitter can cause a storm in a tea cup!
