Hi guys I'm going to order my kapex this week

Is there anything that I really need to get it working as in hoses etc (I seem to remember reading about a larger shorter piece)

And is the standard blade it comes with good enough. Can I get a finer one?

I would like to make sure I order the parts with it

Also how about zero tolerance insert can I make my own or do I need to buy these too

congrats!

the shorter 36mm hose works better

the stock blade is good enough for my uses (ply/hardwoods/softwoods/alum/steel/titanium/carbonfiber)

You can buy or make your own zero plate and fence. i bought another clamp so i dont have to keep swapping sides with one.  Youll want this on a table or the UG cart later on.

Ok cool thanks Tee

Any one know the part no for the short 36mm hose one I take it its long enough to reach down under the bench to the ct

The UG extension wings of course...  [wink] [poke]

Just like [member=37561]#Tee[/member], I've not so far needed anything other than the standard blade. A shorter 36mm hose is definitely recommended; round about 1.5m - 1.75m is ideal if your extractor is by the side or underneath. Unfortunately it's not a standard part so you can either buy a longer one and cut it down, or you can buy the 36mm hose by the metre and add the tool end and rotating cuff.

And if this is 110V and you'll be using it through an extractor, a 5kVA transformer is also recommended.

Zero-clearance inserts are an emotive subject for mitre saws and I'm in the "only really necessary to stop small offcuts falling down the gap" camp rather than the "they improve the cut" camp. But an auxiliary fence is easy to make for yourself - you'll find details in [member=191]Rick Christopherson[/member]'s Supplemental Manual athttps://www.festoolusa.com/media/pdf/kapex-ks120-supplemental-manual.pdf

Hi! Congratulations on taking the leap.

Probably need a bit more info. The hose gives better performance for sure but are you buying an extractor too or do you already have one? If so, and you already have a smaller hose, then maybe you could "put up with" a still more than adequate extraction performance in favour of, say, crown stops? If that's the sort of accessory you might use.
Which brings me to the requesting more info bit:

Is it going to be stationary in a shop or taken to site? Would you benefit from the UG cart & extensions over crown stops (I don't think the extensions can be added on to the crown stops which I find a bit of a foolish oversight but I may be wrong on this)

What materials are you likely to be cutting? The stock blade is excellent for most applications but hardwoods usually benefit from less tooth count (in my experience at least).

I made a zero clearance insert - if you have the tools and the materials to do it, it's easy enough and a nice little project but you lot in the US have the benefit of being able to order them. I can't remember the company that makes them (it's not Festool) but either way, we Brits are not so blessed with this option. Bought or made, it's worth having so you're not losing little bits but don't let your mate use the saw if they're not going to let the blade come to rest before raising it, or you'll have some lovely kick-back chunks taken out of it  [sad]

All the best,
Tom

Festool makes a package blade deal with one each of the 60T and 80T blades at a discount.  Not sure how much cutting you plan to be doing, but if you want the 80T blade for finer work, it might be worth it to get the package for when you have to get the stock blade sharpened, so you will have a replacement 60T on hand.

Thanks guys

Looks like I will just order the saw and see what I need as I go along

It will be stationary in my shed and I already have a ct36

I think Bob Marino festool has a shorter 36mm hose for $100usd.
Not sure if you can get it shipped,or of its worth it but.....

If you bought the hose and cut it,I'm not sure what the other side would be good for.
Maybe a spare kapex hose, but how often is that needed.

Ps I tried to put a link,but didn't work

I would recommend you either make or buy the zero clearance insert

If you want to buy the Betterley one (excellent item), as you are in the UK it can be bought from here:
