There have been postings about the Kapex not aligning up with the UG stand.  Is this a widely known issue?

left wing is perfect, right wing is out and everything catches on it being higher when sliding stuff. This has caused me grief as it's chipped some of my work...haven't used Kapex in 6 months, silly really but after spending all that cash it bugs me this happens! I should set some time aside to fix it. Been using a Makita LS0714 with shop made stand.  Kapex will come out when i need it for Handmade kitchens that i install.

Hi Jacko9,

Mine does that too. In the following threads, I counted these members reporting the issue;

http://festoolownersgroup.com/ask-festool/kapex-ug-extension-hight-issue/msg262819/#msg262819

http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-problems/kapex-ug-extensions-not-level/msg250882/#msg250882

and in the recent thread the Coparcollector mentioned, Shaneymack reported the same issue.

and now Mahomo59 in this thread.

So, including me, I could count 7 members reporting this issue.

Does it mean there could be a large number of affected saws?
Or the issue is exaggerated because those who do not have any problem are silent?

I'm curious if there is anybody who can show their right UG wing stays flush?

I rarely use the right extension. So this issue doesn't affect me that much, but I imagine it can be a real nuisance for some.

I have many Festool and love them including my Kapex, but hope Festool becomes aware of this issue and fix it for the future lots.

I just received my Kapex, UG Stand and Wings yesterday. Set them up last night, everything seems perfect except for the right wing, it is a little taller, maybe 1-2 mm higher than the base of the Kapex. I've adjusted the legs, readjusted the bracket in the V groove, but nothing. It always stands proud of the base, which causes boards to catch on the lip. Not Good. Hopefully someone comes up with a fix soon!

The advice has been is the stand level, are there any wood chips stuck in the v groove? Basically you either deal with it or get out a grinder, or put in a shim?  I'm wondering what festools response is on it? The problem appears to be on the saw so I wonder if you send it back for repair if they would fix the low issue on the left and the high one on the right? I get the feeling festool would fix this issue given their track record.

Is there anybody out there who can say, "my UG wing is perfactly flush"?

The only fix I can think of is to make a special bracket for the right wing that lower the level of the wing.

As I mentioned in the thread initiated by Shaneymack, Festool told me they are not aware of this issue and I can return the saw if I don't like it. Because I didn't return it within 30 days, now it was my decision to accept the saw as is.

Maybe not perfect but certainly close enough...

That looks close to me Tom.  Some folks report a large step on the right hand side, is there a mixed batch of stands out there?

Is it the wings or the saw base/mounting groove? For example, if the wings were swapped, is it still the right side that is high?

There was another post where I asked if anyone had swapped sides with the extensions. One member did and reported he had the same result. To me, that eliminates his extensions.

However, the extensions have to be coplanar with the bed or there will be more of a mismatch.

So it seems like the casting/machining of the right wing mount is 1-2mm higher than the left side?

Without being there, I certainly can't say... All I know is mine works fine and the ones I've been around do also.

Thanks Tom for posting the photos.
It confirms that not all saws are affected. Hope those reported the issue here are minorities.

I just finished setting up my ug with the extensions and yes I have the same issue on the right side with the extension being proud of the Kapex.  Have call but to me it's an issue.  If it was lower, not an issues .  I know to solve the problem when sliding wood across, I can round over the edge of the wing so it won't catch but still will be proud. Not sure how much of a different it would make but it is measurable.
With that said - I hope they come out with a new bracket - maybe one with two set screws to dial it in....

I have the Kapex on the way to my shop and Tom tells me that the UG stand is back ordered at Festool.  Hopefully, they will resolve this issue and I'll add comments when I receive mine.

Now three more users reporting the issue within few weeks.
This problem seems really affecting many Kapex.
I'm interested in any official words from Festool about it.....

Besides the right wing being proud,  I check to see if the turntable is level with the base and I also found the left side is 13k lower than the turntable. Did try a few sample cuts  on a 12 inch long scrap and it did seem to not make a difference. Maybe if it was clamped it could of.
The right side of the table is only about 3k lower.  Haven't look to see if there are any adjustments to the table. But the fence is square..... on both sides.
