Ok, a Kapex followed me home today and so far I'm loving it. Only problem so far is my Ridgid MSUV miter saw stand won't fit the mounting holes on the Kapex unless I enlarge them (gulp). Don't know why that's a block for me, perhaps because the saw is less than 24 hrs old. After a week or so I will probably just make them bigger and bolt the saw to the MSUV, unless the rubber feet get in the way...
Two questions:
1. Are there no detents for the bevel adjustment? How do you get to positive 0 and 45? It seems like that's what the 0-45 setting on the green knob in the back is for, am I right? I absolutely want to make sure this thing always comes back to 0 each time, not close to zero because I used the scale.
2. Any reason to keep my Makita LS1013 SCMS? My assumption was that two SCMS were one two many, for both space considerations as well as the $250 or $300 I could get by selling it on CL. Any reason NOT to use the Kapex on, say, framing and rough carpentry jobs?
BTW, the Kapex was LOML's idea. For you guys who don't have one yet and want to know how to get one, here's how to run the play:
[Back story, the house we live in has at least 5 kinds of trim in 1800 sq ft. We've always wanted to do something about it. I trimmed out an interior door the other day to see how the style would look. We join our story here...]
Me: "Well, I will do these other 5 doors on the ground floor, and re-do the base to match, but I'll have to bring my saw inside and set it up. It's too time-consuming to take each board out to the shop to cut it."
LOML: "Hmmm..."
Me: "I'll ahve to get a hood."
LOML: "What's that?"
Me: "Contains the dust, fits on my miter saw stand. Otherwise the house will get full of dust."
LOML: "Hmmm"
Me: "There's only one dust-free solution, and it's spendy."
LOML: "What's that?"
Me: "Festool, of course. But it's a $1300 saw."
[At this very instant, alien beings invade the brain of my wife]
Aliens (speaking through my wife's voice): "Well, I guess you'll have to get it."
Me: "Honey, that's really sweet. But the chop saw hood is only $150 and will get all the dust. I'll just stay with the Makita."
LIAR!!! Here's how it actually ended:
Me: "Uh, ok..."
