ive been fitting skirting boards today. 7 inch pine ovolo skirtings to be exact. normal straight 90 degree cuts are ok. but as it was big 7 inch skirts i was having to lay them flat to cut the mitres. this was causing the saw to struggle somewhat. lots of smoke. lots of burning.

now ive known a fair few joiners to have said theyve never had to get their mitre saw blade sharpened. however on my previous mitre saw i often got the blade sharpened for pretty much this exact reason.

i did a approx 20 sq meter solid oak floor a little while back and used my kapex for cutting the boards there. so i wonder if the blade is a little dull. (kapex is 6 months old but not used every day)

so could the blade be needing a sharpen up? its the standard blade. do you guys use a lower tooth count blade for skirtings? ive fitted a lot of mdf skirtings recently. would mdf cause the blade to dull quite quickly?

Of course it might be dull.  But you could also clean it and see if that helps.

see theres not a massive build up on the blade. i checked that first. and with cutting mainly mdf since i got it there wasnt much at all. it only seems to struggle on the 45 degree bevel cuts.

do you use any thing on your blades?

ive seen mitre saws 5 or 6 year old that the owners claim to never have sharpened the blades. also seems a lot of tear out when compared to my previous mitre saw with a fairly high tooth count blade.

MDF can be rougher on a blade than natural wood (depending on species of course).  Might be a good idea to get a new blade  and send your old one out for sharpening so as to have a spare.

Just my thoughts.

yea good plan like. ill look into it. is it worth having a lower or a higher tooth count blade? cant off hand remember the standard blade tooth count?

Because I use mine (in your terms) for both first and second fix I use the 60 tooth blade.  In my experience doing a bevel cut really illustrates whether or not there is either a dirty or dull blade more so than just rotating the table.  In all honesty I know I need to have mine sharpened now.  [scared]

just checked ebay. seen a stehle blade for £39 seems alright. the stehle blades i have for my ts55 are pretty good and are up to what the standard festool blade is so ill pick one of those up i think.

theres a local place to me thats just sharpened all my ts55 blades so they know how to go on with festool blades. when the replacement gets here ill send the festool blade off to be sorted out.
