Kapex dust bag

    I can't believe I didn't notice this until now, or am I wrong?  There's no dustbag for a Kapex?![eek]
    I've done some searching and I can't find a dustbag for the Kapex, meaning you have to have a vac attached or clean up the dust that spews out the hole.  I don't necessarily want to drag the vacuum out every time I use it, sometimes it's not necessary to be that clean especially when I can set up outside but it looks like you basically have to, is that right?

The Kapex comes with no dust bag nor does Festool offer such a product. The saw is designed for use with a dust extractor or collector. It should not be too hard to fabricate one from other dust bags though the effectiveness is unknown.

A dustbag for the Kapex is pretty useless, there is no effective way to get the dust into the bag. Without active suction, there is no clear path to the DC opening for the dust to get there by itself. Festool expects most customers who buy a Kapex to have a dust collector at hand.

.. I never thought of that. But sure I am going to try the bag that are for the TS and HKC saws..
I’m sure it will probably only limit spewing saw dust, but it may work or.. Must try..  [big grin]

I have a 12" Milwaukee Compound saw and the bag catch less then 30% of the dust at best. I don't know about Dewalt and other brands but what I know is the Kapex catch almost everything with a vac of course.

Please, I have none high hopes, it’s only for fun, as I have the bits anyway.
At least it will not spew dust all around (as of no vac or other is connected), it will probably be more concentrated at the saw base..  [big grin] [embarassed]

When I use the TS55 on site for a quick cut and don't want to drag out the CT I just connect the hose to the saw and it catches most of the dust. You can then empty the hose or take it to the CT to empty.

It really does keep most of the dust out of your face.

I agree, easiest is probably to tie a fabric bag to the outlet, just to ensure it doesn’t spew sawdust around, most likely it will “collect” on the saw itself, very little will go trough the dust port as there is no more airflow when there is a bag to constrict the small airflow that the blade generates.
(I just checked; the TS/HK bag does not fit the new Kapex 120, I forgot.. you have to unscrew the dust port on the TS/HK saws that accept the dust collector hose for FT vacs to reveal the bayonet that accepts the dust bag)

Probably, but a TS55 is not a Kapex. I might as well say my DTS catches a lot of dust with the bag attached, and the OP would be none the wiser. A TS55 and a Kapex have a different size and are built completely different because they are completely different machines. It works with the TS55 because it is a smaller machine with an almost totally enclosed blade. The Kapex is bigger and more open.

Another thing to keep in mind is the dust accumulation in all the moving hinges and bits behind the saw blade (the stuff that allows the blade guard to retract).  It’s been pointed out that using the saw without dust collection creates issues there and requires more frequent cleaning.  I haven’t tried it myself (I’ll connect the extractor even when outside because the wind will always turn and throw the dust back in my face!).

I find that it doesn't seem to 'throw' the dust at all.

I have an old Bosch 12" compound and when comparing the two without dust collection attached, the entire room is polluted but with very little left on the saw itself. With the Kapex is seems that 50% stays right on the saw.

With dust collection attached the Kapex is obviously much better as the Bosch is hardly worth the time connecting the hose is it so bad.
