Kapex Dust Shroud Mod

After my second Festool rubber dust shroud got destroyed, I decided to do what CNC users do to control dust - I used the "STACHE"  from FastCap . So far it works great, and clears my high fence, the only drawback so far is that it is losing hairs. Since the stache has a metal band inside the rubber, it is easy to bend to shape, and retains its shape with the help of the two festool original screws.
Trying everything I can to cut down dust

Note: Mine is a Kapex 60, but it will work with the 120 as well

I also wanted to say that I use a dust extraction hose, with an EXCELLENT product: MAGPORT, I have them connectted on every piece of equipment, and they work Excellent. Totally recommend them if your equipment is not permently attached to a hose. (I am not affiliated with them and paid for them myself)

Anyone else use these "Dust Curtains" or the Magfnetic Hose Clamps?  What opinions?

I watched and tried the DIY ports, but they are no way close tyo the quality and ease of installation of the MagPorts + you are supporting a small business in the U.S.

I'm a big fan...make that a huge fan of the Magports.

On a Dewalt DW 735 planer.

On a Jet combination belt/disc sander.

On a Bosch table saw.

On a Delta band saw.

And here is the latest Magport product offering, a bolt-on flange that will be used on a Delta jointer.

I'm not surprised that the commercial magports perform better than shopmade ones, but that fellow's version looked pretty good based on his airflow test. The decision to buy vs to fabricate/shop-make always has its pros and cons. I even came across a YouTube video showing the making of a "domino joiner" with a biscuit joiner and some plywood parts. I, too, don't think that shopmade joiner would match a Festool DF500 in terms of performance and reliability.

The magnetic connectors are a very practical idea, but since I almost have a dedicated dust extractor for each major machine/station, I have no need for such kind of accessory -- yet.

That’s a good idea to use the black pipe to get the hose away from the 735’s exhaust
What connectors did you use to attach to the dewalt then the magport

Me too!  I have them on my Hammer J/P, router table, SawStop PCS, and drill press.    The drill press setup is the least satisfactory as I have to run the 5" flex hose under the PCS extension table to get it to the drill press.  I may redo that with a dedicated hose and put magports on the dust extractor too.

Hi Cheese,

I have a similar setup on my 735, and it works great. Just don't push/pull on the hose too much. Don't ask me how I know.  : (    [all fixed now]

Hey [member=62093]Intex[/member] I've found that ABS pipe comes in slightly different sizes than PVC pipe. So I just brought the Magport and the Dewalt connections to the Big Box store and rummaged through the ABS & PVC areas until I found a combination that worked. I then solvent welded them together and voila.

You can see I also used the ABS/PVC combination on the Bosch.

Hi dicktill...I agree, I adjust the ABS elbow into position, firmly attach it and then just let it be. All of the planed wood exits under the elbow and that will last for hours until eventually hours of vibration enter into the equation.  [sad]

I've thought about solvent welding everything to the Dewalt outlet connection to mitigate the issue but I rather like the flexibility of the present connection.

I wouldn't recommend gluing it all together, unless maybe you're able to shorten it by doing that. My setup is quite similar to yours, with a rubber coupling like a "Fernco" (from Rockler) just held on with a worm clamp. I don't recall exactly how I did it, but I put too much load on the whole thing, and the weak point was the exhaust port on the DeWalt itself. I got a replacement "dust chute adapter" from eReplacementparts for $17.88.  : (

Happy Holidays (to all) and Happy Wood Chewing, Dick
