Kapex extension question

700 dollar extensions, plus more $$$ for a full length support and I have 3500.00+ in tools to cut trim.

Don't get me wrong, these things make me money everyday when I get them out but, that is a hefty price tag for a trim cutting set-up.

And how much time do you spend at the miter saw vs. time spend measuring, coping, nailing, gluing and the dozen other things that go into trimming out a room including a bit of time just standing there thinking things through so you don't make a mistake?

If the TS55 is worth $450 and the Domino (a very unique patented device) is worth $775 then the Kapex is worth $850 and not a penny more.  This pricing is just dumb.  It can't cost that much to make that saw.  Festool could own the market but they don't seem to even care.  How can they not care?  I just don't get it.  What they have now is a saw for the truest of true green believers and for asbestos lawyer hobbyists.  And the extensions are priced even dumber than the saw if that's possible.

We could go round and round but here's the bottom line as I see it.  Festool has till October to get right on this deal.  That's when the new Bosch Axial-Glide saw (aka The Kapex Killer) will be on the shelves.  Tom, of course, will be carrying those so he's probably not in any big hurry to beg Festool to make any sweetheart deals on the Kapex and accessories.  He'll be perfectly content to wait and sell me the GCM12SD, with it's 14" of horizontal cutting capacity and $700 price tag, in the fall.

I'm pretty far afield from Kapex extensions, sorry.  I guess I'm waiting till October to decide on extensions.  Maybe Sawhelper will back in business then.  Maybe Bosch will buy them out and start the line back up.

I forgot to add in a mft/3 in that list.

I won't go back to any other saw, the kapex is just too good at too many things and it is super easy to carry around.

I don't care what they corner, all I care is that they don't give in to the cheap tool syndrome that runs rampant here.

I need some kind of support extension, I hate using my mft/3 for it.

I am going to spend a few hundred bucks one way or the other, I don't mind spending the money to get the kapex extensions, I just don't want to have to spend another 100 bucks and hours of my time figuring out a work around.

About the price of scms and extensions.

We, Europe, pay for let's say a Dewalt 12" about ?900/$1100.  So down here the price of the Kapex is a premium but only by a ?200 margin.  In NA you pay almost double for a Kapex vs a Dewalt.  That's not because the Kapex is excessive expensive, it's because you guys get your tools a lot cheaper!  That is all of your tools, not only SCMS.  The price Festool charges in NA is inline with Europe.
Instead of the guys in NA being mad ad Festool, we in Europe should be mad ad Bosch, Dewalt, Bostitch, Hitachi, Makita,...
We get ripped off, you guys just have to pay the same as anyone else on the globe for Festools.

my 2 cents...

Thanks for the info.  I had no idea.  That pretty much explains everything and puts it all to bed.  $300 more for the best saw in the world?  In a heartbeat.

Getting back to the original questions, here is a link to the design that Gary Katz has on his website:  Gary's extension wings

Here's a link to an old post on Woodweb with a photo of an early version of Gary's stand.

JobSite Miter Saw Standsl

This early version doesn't appear to have the Kreg fence stuff.

I bought that Kreg kit and it sat around and I finally took it back unused.  It's quality stuff but I wasn't completely happy with the flip stop.  It won't stop the point of a miter when the point is against the fence.  Notice that he adds an axillary fence to the flip stop.  They have an $26 accessory attachment for that purpose but it looks cheesy.  The production stop won't flip.  I decided to keep looking.

I like the sliding fence idea.  We'll have to figure out our own saw attachment though, unless someone stumbles on a stash of old SawHelper brackets and puts them on Ebay.
